Prisoner Transport Officer

Executive Protection Transport (EPT) is seeking dependable, professional, and physically capable Prisoner Transport Officers to safely transport individuals in custody for government and correctional agencies. Officers are responsible for maintaining continuous custody, security, accountability, and prisoner welfare from pickup through final transfer.

Primary responsibilities include safely operating prisoner transport vehicles; conducting pre-trip vehicle and equipment inspections; assisting with prisoner searches; inspecting and applying authorized restraints; securely loading and unloading prisoners; maintaining required separation of male, female, adult, and juvenile prisoners; monitoring prisoner behavior and welfare; conducting headcounts and restraint checks; maintaining chain-of-custody documentation; communicating with dispatch and agency personnel; following approved routes and rest-stop plans; and completing transport logs, transfer records, medical documentation, and incident reports.

Officers must follow EPT policies, Fulton County requirements, applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations, Jenna’s Act, and all lawful instructions from authorized government and correctional personnel. Officers must remain alert, professional, and prepared to respond appropriately to medical emergencies, escape attempts, contraband discoveries, vehicle breakdowns, behavioral incidents, and other unexpected events.

Selected candidates must successfully complete EPT’s required prisoner transportation training and competency evaluations before being authorized for transport assignments. Training includes custody control, prisoner searches, restraints, use of force and de-escalation, continuous custody, chain of custody, loading and unloading, prisoner separation, defensive driving, CPR/AED/First Aid, emergency response, GPS navigation, communications, report writing, vehicle operations, and professional conduct.

Applicants must:

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Have an acceptable driving record and be eligible to operate company and commercial transport vehicles.
• Successfully pass a motor vehicle record check.
• Successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation.
• Have no felony convictions or domestic-violence convictions.
• Successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and comply with random, reasonable-suspicion, and post-incident drug and alcohol testing.
• Be able to safely operate a prisoner transport vehicle during daytime, nighttime, and adverse weather conditions.
• Be physically capable of safely performing prisoner transportation duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, climb vehicle steps, and enter and exit transport vehicles repeatedly.
• Be able to assist with controlled prisoner movement, restraint inspections, emergency response, and loading and unloading procedures.
• Be able to remain seated and alert for extended periods during local and interstate transportation.
• Possess sufficient vision, hearing, mobility, and situational awareness to safely operate a vehicle and monitor individuals in custody.
• Be willing and able to work irregular schedules, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and overnight or interstate assignments.
• Be able to read maps, use GPS navigation, follow written instructions, and communicate effectively by telephone and radio.
• Be able to prepare accurate and legible logs, custody-transfer documents, and incident reports.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, emotional control, and professional conduct.
• Wear the required EPT uniform, badge or insignia, and identification.
• Successfully complete all required training, written examinations, practical exercises, and competency evaluations.
• Maintain required CPR/AED/First Aid and other job-related certifications after hire.
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a correctional officer, detention officer, law-enforcement officer, military police officer, security officer, prisoner transport officer, or professional driver.
• Experience transporting or supervising individuals in custody.
• Current or previous Georgia POST certification.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
• Defensive-driving or emergency-vehicle-operations training.
• Experience operating vans, commercial vehicles, or secure transport vehicles.
• Knowledge of restraints, searches, custody documentation, de-escalation, and incident reporting.

Employment Conditions

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all background, driving-record, drug-testing, training, and qualification requirements. Prisoner Transport Officers may not perform transport duties until formally trained, evaluated, and authorized by EPT.
