The Costco Digital Services Division is inviting students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university to participate in a twelve -week paid internship program during 2026. Interns will work within specific areas in Costco's Information Systems Division. Interns will attend presentations given by various members of Executive Management from IT and other areas of the Company. Interns will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Housing is not provided. The program runs mid June to early September and is located in Issaquah, WA. No out of state work allowed. All interns will adhere to the CDS hybrid work model of three days onsite and two days remote.

The Observability Platforms Engineering (OPE) team is responsible for the design, deployment and management of robust and scalable Monitoring, Logging and Observability platforms for the Enterprise. The team comprises Platform Engineers and System Admins who's day to day role involves the execution, maintenance and delivery of new features/capabilities across multiple monitoring and observability solutions to ensure end-to-end visibility into the health, performance and availability of applications and platforms. The team is responsible for translating high level platform design into low level technical design and are responsible for implementing, administering, supporting and patching their corresponding platforms. Platform Engineers and System Admins are well versed in modern data, infrastructure and integration platforms, industry/technology best practices and actively work on improving the reliability and scalability of infrastructure.

Individuals selected for the role are expected to have a high degree of ownership to continuously improve existing processes and practices, possess a hunger to grow and learn through daily activities along with reaching beyond their comfort zone to build knowledge. All while creating a team that is effectively and collaboratively engaged.

NOTE: While participating in the IT Internship program, an individual will be classified as an hourly temporary employee for the duration of the program. During the program, the individual may be asked to undergo the normal interview process for a level 1 position. If the individual is offered a position, they will be converted to the employment status matching open job they were selected for. If they are not selected for a regular position, the internship position will be complete in a maximum of twelve weeks.

ROLE

  • Works with stakeholders to identify scope of logging and monitoring requirements.
  • Works independently and within a team environment.

  • Pays attention to detail, self-motivated with the ability to follow instructions and completes assignments on time.

  • Learns and applies new concepts, processes, and tools.

  • Takes initiative to solve problems and multi-tasks by prioritizing projects and deadlines.

  • Communicates effectively with team members, stakeholders, and all levels of management.

  • Works with stakeholders to identify solutions that support the business requirements.

  • Assists the OPE Product Manager, Scrum Master and Product Owner in planning the team workload and delivery.

  • Moderates key meetings and summarizing minutes on crucial initiatives.

  • Showcases creativity in building executive presentations and metrics.

  • Tracks the progress and timely delivery of security reviews and documenting notes in ServiceNow tool.

  • Learns to design, implement and maintain monitoring platforms across multi-cloud (Azure, GCP etc) and on-prem environments.

  • Manages and optimizes observability solutions (such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry etc) for end-to-end systems visibility.

Required:

  • High level knowledge or interest in Azure DevOps/ ServiceNow or similar project management tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and threats in Cybersecurity.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess good organizational, time, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, and stay well organized.
  • Must be maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be students currently enrolled in an IT undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college or university.

Recommended:

  • Basic conceptual understanding of CI/CD orchestration tools e.g., Jenkins, Maven or similar CI/CD.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
  • Familiarity with common operating systems and security configurations
  • High level knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as Azure or GCP.
  • Problem-solving abilities, particularly in identifying and mitigating potential security risks.
  • Ability to properly handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay Range:: $31.90/hr,
