Staff Engineer

Job Description

Fidelity Investments

Job Description:

Join Fidelity Labs, our in-house new business incubator, as the Staff Engineer, New Ventures. In this senior technical role on the New Ventures team, you will architect, build, and scale the core components of multiple early-stage startups within Labs. You will be hands-on with code from day one, moving fast from 0 to 1, and you will shape the technical vision, roadmap, and execution across a portfolio of new ventures. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and platform engineering partners to deliver rapid iterations and robust integrations with Fidelity's broader ecosystem and other complex external systems.

The Role

As the Staff Engineer in New Ventures, you will:

  • Ship production-quality code and model engineering excellence through hands-on leadership.

  • Rapidly take concepts from prototype to MVP and toward scalable products in ambiguous and evolving environments.

  • Design and build scalable, secure, and maintainable systems that integrate with large, complex platforms, internal and external.

  • Own key architectural decisions and the technical roadmap for venture pods, break down complex problems, and set clear engineering direction.

  • Drive rapid technical iteration and prototyping, learn from user feedback, and instrument product and platform metrics.

  • Lead critical technical initiatives through ownership and influence, mentor engineers and contractors, and establish standards and best practices that allow teams to scale.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and platform teams to deliver best-in-class SaaS and platform experiences across the Labs venture portfolio.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 or more years of experience in software engineering with a proven track record of building and scaling SaaS or platform products from the ground up.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in digital asset development, including cryptocurrencies, blockchain protocols, and decentralized applications (dApps).

  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production code in modern languages and frameworks.

  • Deep experience designing and integrating with large, complex systems and APIs.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias for action in fast-paced, early-stage environments.

  • Experience providing technical leadership, including mentoring, establishing engineering standards, and coordinating delivery with cross-functional teams.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical requirements for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
