SLOCUM ORTHOPEDICS is Pacific Northwest's leading provider of progressive orthopedic care. Slocum Center offers advanced, highly specialized musculoskeletal care that is designed to help restore and enhance patients' bone, muscle, and joint health.
The Center is named after its founder, Dr. Donald Slocum, who was an early pioneer in the field of orthopedic sports medicine and a devoted champion of innovative approaches to orthopedic care. In his early years, Dr. Slocum served in World War II where he practiced medicine at the renowned Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. This experience and the knowledge that he gained inspired him to author An Atlas of Amputations - a text so ahead of its time that it served (and continue to serve) as a definitive reference for orthopedists.
As he enhanced his medical expertise in the field of sports medicine, Dr. Slocum along with three other orthopedists in the U.S. founded the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) - the international authority on orthopedic and sports medicine–related research and education.
Throughout his success and expertise, Dr. Slocum's name has now become synonyms with Sports Medicine. He even made history with his studies of knee joint ligaments and their role in joint stability during movement. This finding further inspired equally renowned peers like Drs. Robert Larson and Stanley James to pursue a chance to work alongside him.
Proudly serving area residents since 1939, Slocum Orthopedics provide WORLD-CLASS care and exceptional patient experience at their main campus in Eugene and satellite office in Springfield.
The center remains focused on Dr. Slocum's mission to enhance health and knowledge by providing advanced, comprehensive, and integrated orthopedic care for all patients in the Pacific Northwest.
