Under Florida Law, there is such an employment accommodation known as Veteran's Preference. Under this statute, the state and all its political subdivisions shall give preference in employment, promotions after being deployed and retention to:

  • Service-disabled Veterans;
  • Honorably discharged Veterans;
  • Spouses of a 100% Permanent & Total (P&T) service-disabled Veterans, who, because of their service-connected conditions can no longer hold gainful employment;
  • Spouses of missing service or captured (POW) service members;
  • Wartime period Veterans
  • Un-remarried widows or widowers of a Veteran who died of a service-connected disability; and
  • Current members of any reserve component of the United States Armed Forces or The Florida
    National Guard.

REQUIREMENT:

The City of Cape Coral acknowledges and follows the Veteran's Preference provided that the applicants MUST provide a copy of their DD214 and/or equivalent separation papers to determine their listing dates and if they fit the service criteria and type of discharge. 

EXCEPTION:

Veteran's Preference, however, DOES NOT apply to the City of Cape Coral's open contract positions.
