Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

Position Overview The Mine Mobile Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing and executing maintenance plans that optimize mobile equipment availability, reliability, and cost performance. This role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability teams to ensure maintenance activities are planned, resourced, and scheduled effectively to support production targets and safety objectives.
Position Responsibilities - Safety & Compliance: Ensure all maintenance planning activities comply with MSHA regulations, Pinto Valley Mine safety standards, SOPs, and environmental requirements.
- Maintenance Planning: Develop and manage daily, bi-weekly, and two-week look-ahead maintenance schedules to optimize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
- Resource Coordination: Identify and coordinate labor, parts, tools, materials, equipment, and contractor resources to ensure work readiness.
- Work Order Management: Scope, plan, and prepare work orders with accurate labor, material, and cost estimates prior to execution.
- Operational Alignment: Collaborate with Operations, Dispatch, Reliability, and Maintenance Supervisors to align maintenance plans with production priorities.
- Equipment Reliability: Schedule preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with service intervals, OEM standards, and operational requirements.
- Cost & Performance Monitoring: Support maintenance forecasting and budgeting while tracking planning KPIs such as schedule compliance, service accuracy, and downtime.
- Systems & Documentation: Maintain maintenance plans, schedules, material catalogs, purchase requisitions, and work order data within SAP and related systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve maintenance planning processes, efficiency, and equipment uptime.
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned in support of site maintenance objectives.
Position Requirements Required - Minimum of 5 years of experience in mobile maintenance within an open pit mining environment.
- 2-3 years of experience in maintenance planning or maintenance supervision.
- Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance processes and heavy mobile equipment maintenance practices.
- Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to plan and schedule work using CMMS systems; SAP experience preferred.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
Preferred - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Maintenance Planning, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working with large mining equipment fleets (loading, hauling, drilling).
- Familiarity with reliability and condition monitoring practices.
Work Environment / Physical Demands - Approximately 60% of time spent planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities in an office setting.
- Approximately 40% of time spent in the field supporting maintenance execution and job scoping.
- Work includes exposure to mine operating areas, mobile equipment, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and work safely around operating equipment.
All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
