J&L Landscaping, Inc

Your ability to follow the directions stated in this posting and how you answer the questions-implied or stated-is of the utmost importance in how we initially screen applicants. Our customers expect us to only bring individuals of the highest integrity and work ethic to their properties. Our customers are the best in the area to work with and we strive to meet their expectations. They expect professionalism in the services we provide and in our staff.

Please READ and ANSWER ALL of the following that may apply to you and write anything that might demonstrate to us something special that you offer.

We have a need for an additional crewmember. We will train someone with a very good work ethic and little experience, or, we will consider someone with experience who is willing to learn our way (setting aside the way other companies may have incorrectly had you perform tasks). Pay is commensurate with experience and your ability to produce a quality finished product.

You would begin as a Crew Member, add to/modify/improve your knowledge and expertise and should have the desire to work yourself up through the ranks. How far you progress is entirely up to you. Demonstrate that you can handle responsibility and you will be given responsibility. Absorb the technical information we will give to you and you will become a valuable asset to us.

We are not a mow blow and go operation. We are professional Horticulturists, performing our services using Horticulturally correct methods. (Using gas shears and calling it pruning is NOT the way we control plant growth, and it is WRONG! Irrigation spray heads on plant materials is not the correct way to irrigate plant materials, etc.)

You must be substance abuse free--including tobacco products.
You MUST have a current, valid Drivers License, good driving record (good does not mean perfect) (you will be required to provide a copy of a recent DMV Driving Record before becoming eligible to drive our vehicles on the highway), reliable transportation and SS card as well as proof of US citizenship. All of our employees can legally operate a vehicle and their driving records will not cause our insurance rates to increase.

Our shop/base is in NW Raleigh---you would have to drive here every morning. Living in Raleigh, Durham and Cary, etc. makes for a long and expensive commute to work and home again. Although there have been some qualified individuals willing to do the long commute, in the past it has become a problem so we tend to discourage those from over 30 minutes away.

Some experience would be a plus for you to have, but, the individual willing to put in the time and effort to learn the Horticulturally Correct way to work on turf and plant materials, hardscaping, drainage, lighting, and irrigation, is who we are seeking. We are willing to teach you correct Horticultural Practices and the other skills to be successful in our industry.

We landscape part of each week and then perform weekly maintenance the remainder of the week. You must be versatile and adaptable to the ever changing requirements of our customers. You must also be able to adjust to a work day that start and ends at different times as the projects, schedule, weather or season require. We usually work 6:30 am to 4 pm in the summer and 9 am to 5 pm during the winter necessary to work well past 5 and we do work on  Saturday's.

An artistic eye, ability to see spatial relationships, and a love of being outdoors is an integral part of the job. Bugs, poison ivy, dirt and dust, mud, rain, hot and cold come with the job. As does the ability to push a fully loaded wheelbarrow up an incline and lift 50+ lbs on a regular basis or, getting on your knees to plant annuals.

We perform ALL aspects of Landscape and Irrigation Contracting. High end, diverse custom work. No mow blow and go.
You must be willing and able to perform strenuous work. You will work in heat, cold, and wet. This is not easy work so if you are not fit or are not the outdoorsy type, this is not for you. You need to know or learn when to be meticulous and when to "rough" in the work.

This is a real job. Potential to personally grow and take over leadership of a crew is something we would like to see. We are gradually taking over work from other less skilled, less quality oriented companies. Our new customers are telling us they have had enough with work half way being done, the appearance of their properties is in a state of decline, and, having to deal with 4 or 5 companies for their landscaping needs. They understand that you pay for what you get, and we give them what they request at a price that is fair to them and allows us to make a living also.

Email your responses including compensation expected and relevant work experience. Do include any military service. Be sure to include your phone contact number.

Again, we will do the initial screening based on how you represent/sell yourself in your email/cover letter.
Sell yourself to us. Give us the reasons you think we should put our time, efforts and money into training you!!! We will accept a current Hort Student for part time or summer work.
