KIFAC was founded in Denver in 2003 by a group of friends wanting a laid-back summer kickball league–an alternative to leagues that took their kickballing a little too seriously. It was, and still is, simply a sports league at heart. Along the way, almost by accident, the league realized that bringing together people to do fun things created a great opportunity to raise a little money for charity. The idea was simple: do fun stuff, have an awesome league and donate a bit of the participation fee to charity . . . a win-win situation. Since that start, the kickball league has expanded to three seasons, a bowling league was added in the winter and more activiites are on the way.
We originally called ourselves “Kick In For A Cause”, a play on both the kickball league that started it all, and the charitable aspect that evolved. However, other groups and events in town adopted similar names, so to avoid confusion we started going by the acronym of KIFAC.
The league’s first donation was to to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and that idea continues today with KIFAC’s only monetary donation going to CAF. However, KIFAC also makes various donations to other groups by utilizing the power of a fun-loving crowd like KIFAC.
