Waste Solutions Group and San Francisco Bay Railroad

 
Waste Solutions Group (WSG) is a San Francisco-based waste transfer, transportation & disposal operator; and rail terminal operator specializing in the shipment of waste by rail. Since its inception in 1992, WSG has moved more than 6 million tons of waste-by-rail for public and private sector clients on both East and West coasts of North America. The Company has offices and terminals in San Francisco (CA) and Richmond (CA). The firm has provided waste–by-rail transfer, transport & disposal services for more than 20 years and its principals have more than 50 years of experience in the waste industry. 

Truck-to-Rail Logistics Services - Since 1991, WSG has had a long-term, exclusive contract with Allied Waste, now Republic Services, the second largest solid waste management firm in the United States. WSG operates as Republic’s representative on the West Coast to market and project manage all rail and/or complex transportation and industrial waste projects (either ongoing or one-time clean-ups). In addition, WSG managed many of Allied’s municipal waste-by-rail projects. On the East Coast, WSG managed the rail movements of up to 1,500 tons per day of containerized municipal solid waste from Boston to Virginia, 400 tons per day of containerized incinerator ash from Maryland to Virginia, and multiple special waste movements (in both rail gondolas and containers). WSG manages a fleet of over 300 leased and owned rail gondolas on a daily basis for Republic Services and its own WSG account. WSG, working with CSX Railroad, developed a “dedicated trash train” in late 1999 that currently handles waste generated in New York and Boston. This dedicated train speeds the movement of containerized waste to southern landfills, saving the shippers significant money in equipment. On the West Coast, WSG manages the rail movements of more than 200,000 tons annually of waste materials from Northern California to Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Texas, Ohio and two provinces of Canada. WSG works hand-in-hand with local certified truckers and the national railroads to assure safe and environmentally sound transport from its railyards to destination landfills and processing sites.

Waste Solutions Group brings its diverse experiences to bear on projects that have unique transportation and/or regulatory hurdles. In the early-1990's WSG began serving as the exclusive Northern California representative for the ECDC Environmental landfill in Utah, a modern, state-of-the-art landfill that was designed to accept waste exclusively by rail.
