Buffalo State, State University of New York, seeks candidates for the position of Director of Honors Program.
The Director of the Honors College provides leadership, strategic vision, and oversight of all aspects of the Honors College. The candidate must possess a terminal degree and record of scholarly work sufficient to qualify for appointment in a department at the rank of Associate Professor at Buffalo State.
Position Description
The ideal candidate is an innovative, impassioned individual who will transform disparate college-wide honors programs into an Honors College. The Honors College is housed in Academic Affairs. This twelve-month faculty position reports to the Associate Provost. The Director is expected to teach one course per semester. The Director works with senior leadership to develop and support curricular, recruitment, and external relationship efforts. Duties include:
Program and curricular management:
Develops, supports, and maintains, in collaboration and consultation with the faculty, the overall design of a challenging, innovative, and creative curriculum for the Honors College and its learning goals, as well as the individual components of that curriculum.
Performs ongoing program assessments to evaluate success in the achievement of the Honors College's goals, including the ongoing evaluation and review of course evaluations.
Coordinates faculty and staff resources to ensure strong partnerships/collaborative relationships with academic programs to support high-achieving students.
Presents Honor College teaching opportunities to associate deans, and department chairs.
Develops and manages in consultation with the Provost's Office, the Honors College budget, personnel, and policies, ensuring sound management of all Honors College resources.
Maintains Honors College policies and Honors College Student Handbook.
Student recruitment:
Develops and implements, in consultation with the appropriate offices of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, both the recruitment of appropriate students to the Honors College and the maintenance of records of their progress.
Initiates opportunities for fruitful relationships with high schools and community colleges to build a pipeline of potential students.
Attends and actively engages with Admissions-related activities, such as Open House, where potential students and their parents can learn about the opportunities within the Honors College.
Develops and maintains best practices especially those focused on recruiting and retaining exceptional, diverse undergraduate students, and high impact practices such as integrative courses, service learning, and undergraduate research.
External Relations:
Participates as necessary with Institutional Advancement to cultivate and steward donors to the Honors College.
In partnership with university leaders, promotes the Honors College to external audiences to increase awareness of the college
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience leading an honors college or honors program.
Terminal degree and record of teaching, scholarship and publication, and professional service commensurate with appointment in an academic department at the rank of associate professor or full professor at Buffalo State.
Progressively demonstrated experience in an academic department or program that displays successful partnerships with faculty, staff, and students to plan and accomplish set objectives.

Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal, and technical communication skills.
High degree of personal integrity and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven track record of mentoring and advising honor students.

Demonstrated ability to be an effective consensus builder who can communicate with multiple constituencies and enable partnerships with other colleges and universities, government agencies, stakeholders and corporations
