The Student Conduct Coordinator (SCC) oversees and assists with the management of the student conduct system at Buffalo State. The SCC's responsibilities will include the supervision, training, and development of undergraduate and graduate student staff ; and In addition, the SCC will manage the distribution of conduct cases for Conduct Officers and the Conduct and Appeals Boards, manage the Restorative Justice program as well as assist with training and recruitment related to Student Conduct board members and advisors.
The SCC serves as one of the College's student conduct officers and reports to the Assistant Dean of Conduct and Community Standards. The SCC assists in the oversight of the student conduct system, creating, training, convening conduct panels and assisting with training staff on conduct policies and practices. The SCC serves as an advocate for student interests under the Code of Conduct, placing the interests of students as expressed in the Code as the highest priority in operating the student conduct system. The SCC stipulates and enforces sanctions for individual student respondents that are based on due process, progressive discipline, student development practices, restorative justice, personal responsibility, and educational interventions. The SCC ensures consistency of sanctions and assists students with understanding the Code, Student Bill of Rights and the entire College conduct system.
The SCC will be a part of the residential on-call duty rotation. A Campus apartment will be available and the SCC will participate in 24- hour crisis intervention during and after normal business hours.
Knowledge of legal issues related to student conduct processes in higher education. Understanding of accountability for confidential materials and information. Demonstrated commitment to emphasizing and implementing timeliness, dependability and efficiency in one's work and responsibilities.
Evidence of strong and effective interpersonal, organizational, analytical and communications skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, administration and other stakeholders. Knowledge of applicable professional principles and standards of good practice in higher education. Ability to think critically, analytically and strategically to address the trends and issues in student conduct and higher education in general. Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to the importance of diversity in the attainment of departmental goals and objectives; record of working effectively to promote an environment of collegiality, diversity, and inclusivity. Demonstrated ability to work independently to anticipate problems, obstacles and opportunities and take action to address them. Ability to manage projects, working knowledge of all applicable computer software, and management skills. Essential Responsibilities 1. Complete all administrative responsibilities related to conduct; review conduct referrals, and assign appropriate action, resolve complaints through administrative or conduct board hearings, as appropriate and monitor completion of sanctions. 2. Oversee Restorative Justice program 3. Conduct an annual review of the student conduct and community standards system, including the Code and make recommendations to the Assistant Dean of Conduct and Community Standards and Dean of Students for any changes, when necessary. Secondary Responsibilities 1. Crisis intervention and response, critical incident reporting and duty rotation. 2. Prepare and participate in presentations to departments, organizations and students to provide information with respect to the philosophy, process and purpose of the conduct system.
- Master's Degree. - Experience in student conduct and community standards in higher education. - Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills, with the ability to investigate incidents, gather data, reason logically, and draw valid conclusions.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating conduct hearings. - Experience dealing with sensitive and confidential issues. - Must be able to handle multiple complex tasks and competing demands, work cooperatively in group situations, and work actively to resolve conflicts. - Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to the importance of diversity.
