Description
|
The Automotive Technician must have a mechanical aptitude and ability to
professionally inspect, repair and maintain services under Motorist
Assurance Program (MAP) guidelines. The Automotive Technician performs
work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy in
accordance with dealerships, factory and USPS standards. The
Automotive Technician works with lube and oil filter, transmission
service, alignment, computer systems diagnosis, tune-up, brake systems,
steering and suspension. The Automotive Technician must explain
technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals
which may include other associates and customers, as required and
continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal
training sessions in order to stay abreast of rapidly changing
automotive technology.

Requirements
|
- State Specific Certifications required
- All 8 ASE Certifications helpful
- Two or more years of experience in mechanical/auto repair related work. Professional hands on experience with lube, oil, filter, brakes, preventative maintenance fluid flushes, transmission, alignment and diagnostics is required
- Valid driver's license and the ability to drive company and customer vehicles is required
- Basic math skills
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with customers, associates and management
- Must be reliable and able to work a flexible schedule depending on business needs
- Advanced understanding of under the hood, mechanical and under carriage assemblies
- Must have experience using a standard/metric wrench and socket set, screwdrivers, hammer, impact gun and sockets, pry bar, alignment toe hooks, air hammer, tape measure, vise grips, torque bits, wheel bearing socket set, 12 volt test light, and oil filter tools to perform the duties of the Master ASE Technician position
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, grip, handle, lift/ carry up to 60 pounds, and push/pull up to 60 pounds.

Tasks
|
- Drive customer's vehicle onto hoist or jack in preparation from removing wheels from vehicle or fitting new tire to wheel, includes test driving cars to diagnose problems and recommend services according to Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) guidelines. Follow established processes in performing USPS standardized oil change and PMI vehicle inspection processes as well as follow parking and bay navigation policies.
- Ability to provide basic maintenance functions such as tire mounting, dismount, wheel balance, lube - oil - filter and check fluid levels. Perform fuel injection services consisting of fuel tank additives, running chemicals through vacuums of vehicles to clean carbon deposits, and performing under the hood fluid changes and power flushes (transmission fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluids, and differential services). Ability to perform advanced diagnostic recommendations and repairs.
- Perform basic brake services; replace brake pads and shoes, replace or resurface brake rotors and drums, calipers, wheel cylinders and brake lines/hoses and bleeding of the complete brake system. Removal, repair, and replacement of parts, which include shocks, struts, and steering and suspension components. Perform alignments and other services on automobiles and light trucks. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A4 Certification in steering and suspension, and A5 Certification in brakes are strongly encouraged.
- Perform basic brake services; replace brake pads and shoes, replace or resurface brake rotors and drums, calipers, wheel cylinders and brake lines/hoses and bleeding of the complete brake system. Removal, repair, and replacement of parts, which include shocks, struts, and steering and suspension components.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and maintain strong diagnostic skills. Perform higher level maintenance on transmissions and engine repair. Keep informed of new technical information and techniques.
- Maintain standards in the area of sales, service, safety, and housekeeping. Use protective equipment when operating machinery and manual working tools. Ensure the environment is safe for all associates. Complete all safety training. Must complete all other duties as assigned.
