The Village of Wilmette is a local government that is approximately 14 miles north of Chicago. Wilmette is a vibrant community comprised of many strong neighborhoods, races, religions and levels of income. The Village extends approximately five miles west from Lake Michigan and is approximately one mile wide. The Village is a home rule community with a Village President and Board of Trustees elected at large and a Village Manager who runs the day to day operations of the Village. Wilmette was incorporated as a municipal corporation in 1872. The Village staff is comprised of nearly 200 full-time employees, and 60 employees who work part-time, seasonal/temporary and interns.
