New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) operates the largest state mental health system in the country, with 22 hospitals, 90 clinics, two world class research institutes and community services quality oversight for a state of over 19 million people. OMH hospitals are all Joint Commission accredited and recognized as among the best mental health hospital systems in the US.
The Richard H. Hutchings Psychiatric Center is a comprehensive, community-based mental health system serving the Central New York region. It provides a network of inpatient and outpatient services to persons experiencing severe and persistent psychiatric disorder. Partnership in treatment and rehabilitation with the goal of recovery for all persons served is the guiding vision of the facility.
Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center (MVPC) provides outpatient program services to adults and inpatient services to children and adolescents. Inpatient services accommodate families from multiple counties. MVPC’s roots go back to 1843 when the Utica facility opened as the first New York State operated hospital for care of the mentally ill.
