Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, are seeking a Chair, Department of Surgery, due to the upcoming retirement of our current Chair. The Chair will oversee all activities related to the staff, surgeons, and the operating room including surgical outcomes. The Chair will also be responsible for leading all teaching and research activities within the Department, including medical students and graduate medical educational programs. The Chair will be charged with creating and implementing a strategic vision for the Department

Interested physician candidates should have a track record of personal academic accomplishments, demonstrated successful administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution as the Department Chair, Division Chief or Section Head, and possess credentials to include:

• Board Certification in General Surgery and/or added qualifications and boards in a subspecialty area
• Ability to meet the requirements for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
• Keen understanding for developing and leading ACGME accredited residency programs
• Previous experience in healthcare quality, resource management, outcomes improvement, patient safety, and positive patient experience
• 5 plus years track record of success in surgical leadership within an academic institution
• Political savvy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to interact within all levels of system level management
