Services aircraft. Performs end-of-runway, postflight, preflight, thru-flight, special inspections and phase inspections. Performs sortie generation operations and hot pit refuels. Advises on problems maintaining, servicing, and inspecting aircraft and related aerospace equipment. Uses conventional or automated technical data to diagnose and solve maintenance problems on aircraft systems. Interprets and advises on maintenance procedures and policies to repair aircraft and related equipment. Troubleshoots and maintains aircraft engines, hydraulic, and other related systems, structures, components, and related equipment. Conducts functional tests of repaired components and systems. Adjusts, aligns and rigs aircraft systems. Supervises and performs aircraft jacking, lifting, and towing operations. Supervises and assists in launching and recovering aircraft. Inspects aircraft structures, engines, systems, components and related systems. Supervises and performs aircraft, engine and component inspections. Interprets inspection findings and determines adequacy of corrective actions. Inspects and checks components for clearances, tolerances, proper installation, and operation. Inspects and operates powered and nonpowered aerospace ground equipment. Inspects and identifies aircraft corrosion for prevention and repair. Reviews maintenance forms, aircraft records, automated maintenance data systems, and historical reports to insure complete documentation. Inventories and maintains aircraft equipment.

 

Summary:

The crew chief is responsible for on-equipment maintenance of F-15SG aircraft in the areas of servicing, pre-flight, post-flight, and phase inspections, powerplant removal/installation, maintenance of pneudraulic systems, secondary power systems, and other areas of the aircraft as required.  Performs end-of-runway and engine runs as required. 

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

 

  1. Perform hourly, calendar, phase and conditional inspections as required by maintenance requirement cards.
  2. Troubleshoot airframe, flight control, powerplant, pneumatic, electrical, avionics, landing gear systems and in-flight refueling system.
  3. Use color-coded charts of aircraft plumbing.
  4. Read schematic diagrams, shop sketches and blue prints and interpret applicable technical data.  Use electronic tools (e-tools) for accessing technical data.
  5. Use and care of power tools and precision measuring devices in the maintenance and repair of aircraft.
  6. Perform End-of-Runway (EOR) duties.  

Required educational/skills background: 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Thorough working knowledge of all systems.
  3. Qualified/certified 7-level Crew Chief with a minimum of six years F-15 experience.
  4. Capable of operating support equipment.
  5. Be able to use electronic tech data (e-tools).
  6. Knowledge of Air Force maintenance publications.
  7. Ability to document maintenance utilizing the Integrated Maintenance Data System. Training to include appropriate Air Force Tactical Aircraft Maintenance technical school.  

Physical Demands:

This position requires normal physical functions. Work may require frequent bending, reaching and climbing.  May frequently lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers.   Work may be performed on top or under equipment in cramped or awkward positions. Normal color perception required.  20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20 required. 

Work Environment (ADA):

May be required to work in areas in the hangar and on the flightline that are noisy and dusty. May be exposed to medium discomforts, such as heat, cold and wind.  Will be required to wear personal protective equipment, when applicable.
