Grand Rapids Police Department

Grand Rapids has approximately 200,000 residents, with nearly 1 million in the greater metropolitan area, making it the second largest city in Michigan. Grand Rapids Police Department has 295 sworn police officers and 102 civilian employees.  The Senior Officer pay rate is $74,296. The patrol shift works 12 hour shifts while other units have 8  and 10 hour shifts. The specialty units include: Detective Unit, Community Policing Specialist, Training Unit, Traffic Unit, Special Response Team, Vice Unit, Community Engagement Unit, K9 Unit and the Grand Rapids Boys and Girls Club Youth Commonwealth Unit.  There are opportunities for secondary assignments: Bomb Unit, Honor Guard, Mounted Unit, Crisis Negotiator, Training Instructor, Field Training Officer and Peer Support.
