TITLE: Maintenance “B” Mechanic
EFFECTIVE DATE: 11/11/16

A. PURPOSE
To execute all the necessary maintenance practices in order to maintain the production equipment under efficient and good running conditions. To be trainable for the next position in his department.
B. DUTIES
The duties of this position are those described below. This job description does not state or imply that the duties listed are the only duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Employees holding this position will be required to perform any other job-related duties as requested by management.
1. Essential Duties These duties directly and substantially serve to achieve the purpose of the position.
• Communicates effectively and learns how to read electrical and mechanical blueprints, uses simple shop mathematics and possesses knowledge of company, local, state, and federal electrical codes.
• Assists and learns from “A” mechanics to make proper installations of complex electrical circuits from wiring diagrams.
• Assists and learns from “A” mechanics to installs, operates, maintains, checks and troubleshoots all types of AC and DC electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Disassembles, repairs and reassembles gear boxes, fans conveyors, blowers, compressors, pumps, valves, furnaces, drives and all allied mechanical equipment when directed or when directly related to electrical troubleshooting.
• Assists and learns from “A” mechanics: hydraulic, compressed air systems and later do the troubleshooting of these systems.
• Installs and repairs electrical conduit, cables, piping, and tubing, including all necessary connections, controls and grounding as direc
• Possesses a working knowledge of the following equipment:
o MIG/TIG welding equipment
o Arc welding equipment
o Gas and Plasma cutting equipment
o Power tools such as drill presses, cut off saws, lathes, mills and portable power hand tools.
o Electrical test equipment such as voltmeter, megger, ammeter, diode and SCR tester.
• Works in teams with all other maintenance and production employees to work on production machines, repairs and breakdowns (Troubleshoot).
• Uses safe working practices and reports all hazardous conditions and acts at all times.
• Inspects machines, takes required tests, completes “ALL” reports as required for company records keeping.
• Possesses the necessary basic personal hand tools of the trade. Must be concerned with their assigned tools and equipment, taking care of its good working conditions.
• Possesses and uses knowledge of plant electrical distribution systems.
• Determines when parts need replacement and when repairs are necessary the machinery assigned to do work to.
• Operates mobile lift truck and hoisting equipment in the performance of his/her work.
• Cleans and paints all repaired equipment as directed.
• Collaborates in keeping all maintenance equipment; tools and working are clean and orderly.
• Possesses knowledge and learns more about lubricants for all type of machines and performs necessary lubrication of production machines as directed.
• Maintains spare parts inventory for plant equipment by checking out parts from parts stock room and must help “A” mechanics and Supervisors with the right information for restocking.
• Assist “A” mechanics and supervisors with the completed work order objectives and correlate the written status report.

1. Physical activities of this position. (Check ALL that apply)
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on level surface.
Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees and extruding / flexion.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) with full extension of elbow in any direction.
Standing: To maintain entire body in erect posture without changing location.
Walking: To move entire body for some distance, moving about on foot.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole arm as in handling.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
Hearing: The act or power of apprehending sound, directions or instructions.
Vision: Visual inspection of areas to be cleaned.
Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
2. Degree of physical exertion required for the position. (Check ONE.)
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary Work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
Very Heavy Work: Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
3. Environmental conditions the employee will be subject to in this position. (Check ALL that

Inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather.

Extreme cold: Temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

D. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
• High School Diploma
• Related training to job duties
• Must pass the Maintenance exam with a 50% or better
• Forklift Operator License
• Must be able to operate mobile lift truck
• Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred – Ability to read, write and speak
