Founded in 1966 as First Alarm private security services (a sole proprietorship owned by Santa Cruz, California native, Jarl E. Saal), First Alarm applied a unique combination of electronic security and uniformed security guard protocols to provide efficient, integrated security solutions to Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Sonoma County California residents and businesses. The First Alarm brand earned the reputation of quality, integrity and professionalism in the protection of life, property and private assets. First Alarm incorporated under California law on July 7, 1982. Jarl E. Saal continues as the companies’ Chairman of the Board of Directors, working closely with executive management teams.
On January 1, 1990, First Alarm separated its uniformed security guard division from its electronic security division. The uniformed security guard division was reformed and incorporated under California law as First Alarm Security & Patrol, Inc. (“FASP”) doing business as First Security Services (FSS). FASP/FSS operates under the direction of Cal Horton, CPP, a former law enforcement officer and seasoned veteran of First Alarm’s original uniformed guard division. Elevated to the position of President and CEO in late 2007, Mr. Horton offers strong leadership and innovative business committed to employing integrated security solutions (strategies toward the advancement of professionalism within the uniformed private security industry. He is committed to employing integrated security solutions (through partnering agreements with First Alarm) to FSS’s diverse client base located throughout the entire state of California.
