JOB SUMMARY
To maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and employees and to safeguard all hospital property against theft, fire and vandalism.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
* Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Covenant Hospital and
demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards
of the Hospital.
1. Maintain peace and order on campus and protect the welfare of patient, staff and visitors.
2. Patrol hospital campus; traffic control, control crowds, prevent and deter crime, fire prevention, prevent theft, safety hazard surveillance patrols and vandalism.
3. Responsible for the enforcement of hospital policies as well as making arrests for
violations of various laws.
4. Respond quickly to Hospital codes and emergencies; Code Red, Code Green, Code Pink and and Code Blue.
5 Maintain good physical condition necessary to perform essential job functions.
6. Must perform essential job functions in inclement weather if necessary.
7 Investigate and document all incidents needing Public Safety involvement.
8. Active member of the "Code Red" team; assists during fire situations.
9. Active member of the "Code Green" team; assists with violent, combative and
intoxicated individuals.
10. Assists patients, visitors and employees.
PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients, i.e., understand patterns of adolescent behavior and needs of elderly patients; prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one year hospital security experience preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent public relations skills
• Must successfully complete all in-house training programs
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Valid Illinois Driver's license.
Preferred Course
Basic IAHSS Certification (must be able to pass within one year of employment)

Internal: All hospital employees and patients.
External: Visitors.
ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL NATURE OF THE JOB
Exposed to heat and cold while doing exterior patrols during inclement weather. Walking 70% of the day; sitting - 30% of the day run and climb up to 10 flights of stairs as needed during code situations. Able to lift up to 10-75 lbs or more (fire extinguishers, patients etc.). Exposed to airborne and bloodborne diseases when dealing with patients and the public, physical restraints, patient lifts and transports.
