U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region III
The Mid-Atlantic regional office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for the protection of human health and the environment for the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.  Federal environmental programs are initiated, developed and implemented in coordination with state and local governments to control pollution, toxic substances, pesticides and drinking water contamination.  We also monitor and enforce laws to protect wetlands, manage hazardous waste site clean-up and regulation of radioactive materials.  The work primarily involves compliance, enforcement, inspection, engineering systems reviews, ambient monitoring, analysis  of environmental trends, i.e., climate change, environmental planning, risk assessment and community education and outreach.
