We are a private family looking for companion care aide help for a young man with cerebral palsy who has intellectual disabilities regarding behavior and physical disabilities. He is in his 30's and fairly smart who can walk with a walker or cane but due to behavioral issues caused by traumatic brain injury at birth he cannot live alone or be left alone for too long. He is a big fan of the miltary and veterans specifically and has expressed an interest in us looking for a disabled vet for his companion care needs. This position is one where you would be part of a team of aides with specific scheduled shifts, weekends needed the most.
This position is part-time during daytime hours, from 10 to 20 hours a week, paid through the WV Public Partnerships program of the state. The position is one where the employee would spend quality time with the young man motivating him to get out of the house and into social situations or physical exercise. An aide would also be taking him to appointments so driving his personal vehicle is necessary. If a job applicant needs to drive their own vehicle (as long as it's workable for the young man's disabilities), there is mileage compensation. Other duties would be to help the young man when he needs it however it is just as important to encourage him to do more for himself as much as possible.
A new employee would get training both general and specific prior to being on one's own for a shift. A new employee is part of a team of aides with specific schedules, either a full day or a half day are options. An employee would need to have a cell phone and ability to use certain communication apps for journal entries for documenting the day as well as ability to communicate at any time via text, email or call. A plus would be an interest in sports and enjoying going to local football games and professional sports with excellent seats. An interest in watching sports on tv, video games like Madden NFL, baseball and basketball is also a big help.
We are located in the Shepherdstown West Virginia area where our young man has his own home with a resident associate on premises in the evenings and night hours. We would like an employee to live within a 25 mile radius or less to Shepherdstown, WV
