As a member of GSOC's telecommunications/network team this Principal Engineer serves as the Network Architect for their network infrastructure. They will be responsible for designing the network used by a large portion of the electrical grid in the state of Georgia. The architect will use and apply their expertise regarding principals, theories and concepts of routing, switching, and fiber technologies. Applies security, interoperability, resiliency, and redundancy best practices to network designs. Maintains in-depth understanding of electric system operations in order to ensure network designs meet stakeholder needs. Manages multiple complex network projects at the same time. They will work closely with the Family of Companies and its members to ensure GSOC is meeting all their network requirements, creating detailed documentation and procedures for newly deployed networks. An ideal candidate for this role is an individual that has a diverse and deep technical background in a wide range of networking disciplines. This candidate would also have a very strong customer interfacing background, as well as superior oral and written communications skills. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications (B.S.), or related field. Experience: 10 years of experience in designing, configuring, implementing and testing, troubleshooting and supporting multi-site critical network environments. These environments would have consisted of multi-vendor routers, switches, firewalls and network security. Equivalent Experience : 15 years of telecommunications/networking experience, with 5 of the years at an architect level. License, Certifications and/or Registrations : Drivers License. Must obtain and maintain Bulk Electric System Cyber Authorized Status as defined in GSOC's CIP Cyber Security Policy 301 and NERC Reliability Standard CIP 004 - Personnel Risk Assessment. Specialized Skills : Computer, MS Office, Word, Access, Power Point, Excel, Visio, effective organizational and communication abilities, knowledgeable and experienced in IP, MPLS, VLANs, VPNs, cellular data, routers, switches, firewalls, CWDM, DWDM, ROADM, QOS/COS, VoIP, computer programming, scripting and related technologies. Advance knowledge of routing protocol including EIGRP, OSPF and BGP. Must have an in-depth experience in configuring most of the technologies listed above in a CISCO environment. Must have an expert level of knowledge with CISCO routers. Must have strong verbal and written communication and leadership skills. Travel : 10% Unusual Hours : After hours response to network emergencies may be necessary.
