Systems Operations Trainer Featured
Summary: Support, further develop, and administer a system operator training program that meets requirements set forth by NERC, SERC, and GSOC. Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Operations Training, the Trainer will be responsible for: a) maintaining the Job Task Analysis (JTA) and becoming familiar with the tasks of system operators, b) designing, preparing, and implementing training materials, c) assisting on the development and use of the training simulator, and d) maintaining familiarity with standards that have a training requirement for system operators. Job Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Operations Training, assists with designing, preparing and implementing training courses for GSOC Operators to prepare them for performing tasks of their job. Much of the training developed will be submitted for NERC certification for continuing education hours. Tasks will also include NERC certification tracking and training development for each operator as well as GSOC business training (contracts, GA ITS, joint plant operations, etc). Assist with the development and use of the training simulator. This would require operation of the simulator as well as creation of training courses that utilize the software. Maintain on an annual basis the Job Task Analysis that lays out the requirements and training needs of each GSOC Operator position. This JTA will identify the courses, tools, and skills required for each position. Be actively involved in any NERC training / personnel requirements or standards development that would affect GSOC operations. This may include input to facilitate management commenting on upcoming standards development or ensuring GSOC remains compliant with current standards. Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical Preferred.) Experience: 3 years in engineering with at least two years of Control Center Operations. Responsible for generation/transmission/energy management with an operating electric utility. Should be knowledgeable in electric system operations, control systems, forecasting, simulation and planning process. Equivalent Experience: High School Graduate or GED with 5 years in control center operations, performing Generation, Interchange or Transmission Operator functions. Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: Must possess or be able to achieve NERC Certified Operator designation within one year of employment. Must obtain and maintain Bulk Electric System Cyber Authorized Status as defined in GSOC's CIP Cyber Security Policy 301 and NERC Reliability Standard CIP 004 - Personnel Risk Assessment. Specialized Skills: Working knowledge of PC applications, Excel/MS Word/PowerPoint experience is required. Working knowledge of applications of “real-time” energy control systems for electric operations, load flows, load management operations, automatic generation control, economic dispatch of generation, short-term load forecasting, switching and transmission restoration. Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills. Basic knowledge of electrical theory (including Trigonometry). Capable of preparing and delivering training material to all levels of operators.
