Job Summary / General Purpose:
The Safety Manager will be responsible for the development, support, execution and management of all Sprague safety management systems, programs and policies.
MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide day-to-day support to all areas of Sprague with regards to the interpretation of internal and regulatory requirements, training, policies and procedures.
Review, modify, develop, and maintain company safety policies.
Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational risk, increase safety awareness and improve safe work practices.
Develop strong working relationships with all subsidiaries, facility managers and safety committees to improve safety performance, remove known hazards, enhance safety awareness and achieve desired objectives.
Manage the Safety Training Program
Develop and manage an internal safety audit program to ensure compliance with internal guidelines, policies and regulatory requirements.
Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices during site visits.
Lead incident investigation teams to determine root causes and development of corrective actions to avoid incident recurrence.
Maintain ongoing communications with local, state and federal regulators with respect to compliance.
Review monthly and annual safety reporting statistics.
Develop and implement short and long term strategic safety plans to achieve desired safety related goals and objectives.
Responsible for the development and management of the annual safety budget
Provide support when needed on Environmental and Sustainability related initiatives
Education / Experience / Skill Requirements :
Experience in OSHA, DOT, EPA and State regulatory requirements necessary.
Demonstrated understanding of and compliance experience with OSHA regulations 1910, 1916, 1917 and 1926.
Professional HSE certifications are desirable (CSP, CHMM, REM, etc.).
Ten to fifteen years’ experience in safety or risk management.
Must have ability to develop excellent working relationships with people of varied backgrounds and levels of responsibility.
Highly motivated, attention to detail, and ability to solve technical and analytical problems.
Position based in Portsmouth, NH with significant field work and travel (approximately 50 percent but will vary significantly depending on specific Sprague projects and operations).
Experience with Canadian regulations, USCG, marine oil terminal and bulk/break-bulk cargo operations strongly desirable.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in safety, risk management, industrial hygiene, engineering or related field.
