General Job Description The electrical service technician is responsible for installing high-quality electrical field work and taking measures to increase the company's effectiveness and efficiency.  Responsibilities  Install Quality Electrical Workmanship and Process: Work as a WGC team member as directed by field foreman. Assist others where needed and follow a neat and process-oriented work style. Be efficient with your time and materials while ensuring top quality electrical installation to meet the NEC.   Identify Solutions for Improvement in the Organization: If you see an area of potential improvement in terms of efficiency and WGC effectiveness, speak up and review the proposed solution with the field foreman.  Identification and Tools: Supply and carry your own small tools (drill, wire stripper, screw driver, levels, hammer, side cutters, channel locks, etc.) and state certification card during all WGC work hours. Any large tools are provided by WGC and checked out to each field journeyman. Mis-use or abuse of equipment is not allowed.  Company "Handyman": We are all part of the WGC team with a common mission in mind; provide high quality electrical workmanship while making the client happy. We are all "handymen" with no task being too small or too large - we pay attention to the smallest detail and handle every client request with professionalism.   Training/Mentoring: Continually pursue and attend opportunities for career/training development via IEC programs and other college/vendor programs. Work with apprentice staff to better their electrical field knowledge.  Recruiting: Continually seek and refer potential employees to the WGC management team.  Industry Awareness: Continually seek industry and market information to provide WGC with the information necessary for successful business development.  Work Hours and Time Sheets: Arrive to the designated field site ready to work at 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with a 10 minute break at 9:30 am and ½ hour lunch at noon. VERMONT ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY, INC.   POSITION OPENING - EXEMPT   JOB TITLE:            System Operator or Trainee DEPARTMENT:     Operations REPORTS TO:       Manager of Control Center Operations SALARY:               Commensurate with Experience     BASIC SCOPE AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:   The System Operator or Trainee will operate the VELCO transmission system in a safe and reliable manner, both independently and with co-workers on rotating shifts.  The System Operator Trainee will work either day or rotating shift, as assigned, under the direct supervision of a qualified System Operator.  The following are the principal duties:   Obtain and maintain NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) certification in accordance with applicable NERC requirements through on-going computer based and instructional classroom training.   Ensure that the VELCO transmission system is at all times operated in accordance with all VELCO, ISO-NE, NPCC and NERC procedures, guidelines and requirements.   Dispatch local generation, regulate power flows at interties using phase-shifting transformers and the Highgate HVDC Converter, and regulate system voltage using a variety of tools (load tap-changers, switchable capacitors and reactors, and dynamic devices such as the Essex STATCOM and Granite Reactive Power Device (RPD).   Manage transmission system emergencies and unplanned outages, taking the necessary corrective actions to return the system to secure and stable operation.   Coordinate the Vermont and New England areas operating activity with the Vermont distribution utilities, as a local control center within ISO-NE.   Perform round-the-clock surveillance of the VELCO system via SCADA and various monitoring systems.   Direct planned and unplanned emergent outages of transmission systems and equipment, including issuing switching orders and working clearances.   Ensure that switching, tagging, and work activity conforms to the VELCO safety and switching rules.   Prepare incident reports, trouble reports and switching plans. Assignments regularly require the use of mathematical formulas to draw land contours or to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, etc.  The Draft/CAD Operator works from sketches, computer models, and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.  This operator selects required information from computer programs, and internet sites, precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides. This operator independently resolves most of the problems encountered. Supervisor or design originator may suggest methods of approach or provide advice on unusually difficult problems.  Candidate may be required to perform any or all of the following tasks: prepare complete sets of drawings of test equipment to be manufactured from layouts, models, or sketches; determine the arrangement and prepare drawing of printed circuit boards (information taken from schematics and manuals); prepare final construction drawings for floodgates, navigation locks, dams, bridges, culverts, levees, channel excavations, dikes and berms. Prepare boring profiles, cross-sections, and land profiles; delineate related topographical details, as required; and prepare final drawings for street paving and widening or for water and sewer lines having complex trunk lines; reduces field notes and calculates true grades.  Candidate must be able to work independently as well as within a team structure.
