Responsibilities The Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) is an Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) base located on Arnold AFB in Tullahoma, TN with Geographically Separated Units (GSUs) in White Oak , MD and Moffett Field, CA. OBXtek has been contracted to provide Base Communications and Information Technology Services (BCITS), Network Operations (NetOps), Infrastructure, and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) implementation and transformation services and solutions to AEDC and AEDC (GSUs). OBXtek is recruiting professionals to provide network-centric information technology, networking, and security, voice, video and data communications, information and applications management, system solutions services as well as emerging requirements based on the AF Chief Information Officer's (CIO's) SOA construct to satisfy all AEDC requirements. This task order shall provide users the capabilities to find, access, collaborate, fuse, display, manage, and store information on the DoD DoDIN. Services provided include Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS), National Security Systems (NSS), intelligence data handling equipment, Command and Control (C2) equipment, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Wireless LAN (WLAN), secure and non-secure video, voice and data systems, and other mission equipment. *Please note that some, but by no means all, positions may fall under the Air Engineering Metal Trades Council and Affiliated Unions, AFL-CIO collective bargaining agreement Job Description: OBXtek is recruiting for Instrument Technician III - Land Mobile Radio and Personal Wireless Communication Systems) to ensure the AEDC radio frequency solution includes nonsubscriber assets: domain controllers, zone controllers, antennas, repeaters, network management terminals, switching site equipment, key management facility servers, and associated software as well as subscriber assets: portable, mobile and base station radios, and antennas. The system also utilizes two RF sites (towers). All assets are located within 25 radial miles from Arnold AFB. Assets shall be maintained in accordance with OEM specifications and industry standards and applicable DoD policies. Not including the site(s) core assets, there are currently 815 assets: 150 base stations/ mobiles, and 665 portables. Under general supervision and direction as the highly skilled instrument technician will have the following duties: Modifies, fabricates, maintains, and repairs, a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment used in Arnold AFB land mobile radio (LMR), Giant Voice, paging, and other radio-frequency controlled systems. Performs diagnostic, programming and troubleshooting activities required to service a full spectrum of electronic equipment, public address systems, and transmitters and receivers utilized in the base giant voice siren system, fire alarm system, paging system and LMR system. Adjusts instruments (electronic devices) as directed and adapts them to new and extended uses. Troubleshoots, and maintains electronic equipment, electronic instrument dependent systems, and other similar device systems. Must be capable of interfacing with a wide variety of other trades including telephone technicians and computer technicians. Supplies technical assistance to lower- level technicians and assists in training them. Maintains computer based databases and programs utilizing Excel, Access and vendor-specific databases. Use of Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and Remedy as required to enter job specific remarks, schedule events, and complete technical reports as required. Performs other related duties as required. Works primarily in a workshop and field environment. Uses a wide variety of instruments, tools, and equipment necessary to perform assigned duties. Qualifications This position will fall under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Candidate must be able to obtain and retain a Secret clearance. Educational Equivalent: Must possess High School Diploma or equivalent. Technical school graduate in electronics (or documented equivalent military electronics education.) Completed computer courses in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is very desirable. Specific Knowledge and Experience : 5-10 years of progressive experience in technical instrumentation and demonstrated ability in an area of AEDC specialization. 2 years of advanced training in electronics or other course work related to electronics field. Ability to analyze and understand instruments and circuits. Must be able to direct work of lower-grade technicians. • Ability to operate electronics tools and test equipment associated with the trade. • Ability to read and work from blueprints. • Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions. • Ability to be punctual. • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English. • Ability to work in confined spaces.
