The Role The WIM Operations Business Control Leader (BCL) is the responsible risk management leader for the WIM Operations group which consists of the combined operations teams and functions across WIM. BCLs are responsible for ensuring an effective and appropriate control environment for all business activities across all risk types, ensuring the business consistently implements regulatory and corporate risk programs, and counseling business leaders on risk, issues, remediation, and regulatory interactions. The WIM Operations BCL will proactively provide aggregated views of risk among operations functions across the division and counsel business leadership on risks, issues, remediation, and regulatory interactions. This leader also must foster a collaborative environment that ensures timely communication and strong cooperation between the front line organization and Independent Risk Management (IRM). Specific responsibilities include: Foster a culture of effective issue management, including reducing the number of new issues, and the timely identification, escalation, and remediation of existing issues. In coordination with WIM Operations business leaders, identify and assess risks across all risk types, and ensure assurance activities are consistent with the risk management framework and policies established by IRM. Responsible for working closely with each of the Control risk program leaders and LOB BCLs to lead and promote a strong risk culture to ensure effective communication and collaborative partnerships. Ensure that the business is designing and implementing front line controls across major business processes, consistent with policies established by IRM. Ensure that WIM Operations' strategic plan identifies the material risks and associated activities consistent with the enterprise risk framework and risk appetite statements. Ensure the consistent implementation of the overall Wells Fargo Risk Management Framework, including associated policies, programs and risk appetite framework as they relate to middle and back office functions. Ensure business is appropriately staffed with capacity and skills to properly manage the risk. Escalate concerns and issues to Senior Leadership, IRM, Management Committees and the Board as appropriate. Manage relationships and foster a team orientation with business heads, IRM, legal, audit and multiple regulators. Build a high performing risk management and controls organization and ensure proper staffing and expertise exists at the line of business level and build capabilities, processes and teams that meet heightened risk management expectations. The successful candidate will work closely with other senior leaders in WIM Operations and each of the WIM lines of business and across the company in the development and execution of company risk management strategies. Accordingly, critical success factors will include the ability to develop partnerships with many business and functional areas, provide insight into the economic climate and related market developments and identify trends which may present opportunities or reflect gaps in the Company's risk management execution/direction. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement. Required Qualifications 10+ years of management experience 12+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 12+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 10+ years must include direct experience in risk management Other Desired Qualifications Meaningful knowledge across enterprise risk management framework, including: risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance. Understanding of best-practice risk management techniques across financial services industry. Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and understanding of how they are implemented, managed and enforced. Deep technical understanding of specific WIM middle and back office business operations, processes, products, and customer interactions and where they manifest risk. Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships within the business and enterprise Risk function. Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end to end risk management solutions and controls aligned with business/customer processes. Deep understanding of risk framework, corporate/business policies, and programs to translate into plans for the business, function and/or risk type. Demonstrated leadership ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision and Values and leadership competencies. Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate. Proven ability to build and lead a high-performing control risk management organization in a matrixed environment, ensure proper staffing and expertise exists and can coach and enable others in risk management and risk ownership. Strong analytical ability used to identify risks and confidently raise issues, escalate early and engage in constructive credible challenge and will do so independently when necessary. Proven ability to proactively manage and resolve conflict and effectively defend decisions with objective rationale.
