Employment Status: Full-time, temporary, "non-exempt" position. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be reviewed beginning April 29, 2019.
Under direction of the Facilities Project Supervisor, performs skilled work in painting and finishing of wood and metal surfaces. Typical duties may include:
Surface scraping, sanding and filling in preparation for painting and refinishing;
Applying undercoats and finish coats with brush or by spray machine;
Mixing and matching paints and finishes;
Performing necessary paper hanging;
Cleaning and maintaining brushes and other equipment;
Painting simple signs;
Advising in the selection, ordering and storing of paint materials;
Consulting with other trades and customers;
Maintaining simple records and providing reports; and
Other duties as assigned.
Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, drywall, and paperhanging;
Applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California; and
Computer maintenance management software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
Must be able to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately;
Mix paints and finishes and match colors;
Erect and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders;
Select the most appropriate materials;
Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications;
Make rough sketches;
Estimate cost, time and materials of painting work;
Maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems;
Prepare standard reports;
Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants;
Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations;
Read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and
Perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Experience: The knowledge and abilities required above normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter's apprenticeship program. License/Certificate : Incumbents may be required to possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to operate. Physical Requirements :
Must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull loads ranging in weight from 5-60 lbs;
Must be able to carry loads ranging from 20-50 lbs. for distances up to 20 feet; and
Must be capable of kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, twisting, stooping, and bending; depending upon the project, employee may spend 20-50% of day sitting, 20-50% of day standing, 20-50% of day walking.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
