All people will be treated with respect, relevance, and importance.  JOB SUMMARY This position contributes to the overall success of the GIS services for the street maintenance division by performing data collection, data and layer maintenance, making maps, and assisting with implementing Cartegraph throughout the different business units within street maintenance . There is a strong customer service orientation to this role as it requires on-going interaction with employees, residents, and other businesses. This position's hiring rate will start at $17 but higher rates may be considered based on qualifications.   MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs data and layer maintenance for, street centerlines, sidewalk centelines, utilities or other similar data types. Produces maps (various sizes and complexity) for the street maintenance division.. Generates tabular and/or graphic data sets to standard formats such as Excel, CSV, PDF, JPG, TIFF. Reports on progress of work to supervisor.Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner. Requires regular and prompt attendance.  ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received Receives general supervision from the Street Maintenance Division Manager.  May receive direction of work from the GIS Coordinator.   Supervision Given None.  ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Education Currently attending GIS classes at an accredited college  or related field of study, such as urban land use planning, cartography, or computer science.    Experience At least one year of experience working with ESRI GIS products.  Two or more years preferred.   Licensure/Certification/Registration Valid Colorado Driver's License and good driving record required.  KSA'S AND PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQS: Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience using ArcGIS 10 or above. Solid cartographic skills. Excellent customer service skills. MSSQL and RDBMS is preferred. ArcSDE and geodatabase editing in a versioned environment is preferred. ArcGIS Online publishing for presenting data via http is preferred. Ability to perform effectively as a team member, establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and others, and promote quality customer service and support throughout the organization. The ability to effectively communicate on a regular basis regarding complex technical and other matters, both in writing and verbally, is required. A fingerprint background check and reference checks are required.    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lifting and Carrying Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machinery and/or equipment such as computers, large monitors and peripheral equipment, including plotters, printers, scanners, digitizers, tape drives, etc.  Requires the ability to exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move and/or lift objects.  Will carry computers, monitors, and peripheral equipment from one location to another, sometimes over distances of up to 200 feet.   Body Positions Sitting for extended periods of time in front of a computer workstation.  Standing for long periods of time digitizing/scanning parcel maps, subdivision plats and other hard copy documents.  Walking from building to building, sometimes carrying items and equipment.   Hearing Moderate noise in a business office setting with computers and printers and other office equipment.  Some outside work may need to be done occasionally around other noisier sources, such as near vehicular traffic or construction activities.   Vision Employee uses vision to comprehend arc lines, label points, polygon line types, style, size and color to develop and maintain geographic references for parcel and attribute information.  Must be able to visualize reference attribute features using color monitors and hard copy map products and visually transfer graphic features from subdivision plats, parcel maps and other reference materials to maintain established schema standards.   MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Mathematics Requires the ability to do addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and basic trigonometry  on a daily basis.  Requires the ability to understand and do surveying (COGO) and GPS calculations as they relate to GIS data.  Requires the ability to program mathematical equations using software provided.   Remembering Requires the ability to remember numeric and alphanumeric values for both short and extended periods of time.  Will need to be able to transfer data from one source to another, remembering  programming codes and languages and abbreviations used within them, as well as the locations of a wide variety of physical resources.   Language Ability Requires the ability to read a variety of technical and routine correspondence, forms, reports, manuals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, dictation, and style.  Must be able to speak coherently to people with poise, voice control, and confidence, both one-on-one and in group settings.   Reasoning Requires good reasoning and logic skills.  Must be able to analyze software and software code and determine if the output/response given is correct.  Must be able to troubleshoot problems concerning software and hardware related to GIS.  Must be able to reason with city employees and the public and supplying services and product, with consideration given to current deadlines and project loads.   WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is generally performed in an office environment.  The job requires visits to other City offices and facilities and occasional trips to external client offices, as well as to vendors for data and equipment.  Work outdoors may be required on occasion in all kinds of weather conditions.  Work is in an environment with constant interruptions under a moderately heavy workload with frequent tight deadlines.  May require dealing with angry, frustrated or upset individuals on occasion.   EQUIPMENT USED Computer Hardware PC workstations/ Windows NT, Network connections and peripheral equipment; monitors, printers, plotters, digitizers, scanners, external / internal media drives.   Software ESRI ArcGIS and ArcGIS online, COGO, ArcPress, ArcView, and AutoCAD.   Programming Languages Preferred knowledge of Visual Basic Script, or Python Microsoft Office Suite:     Microsoft Word                                 Access Microsoft Excel Microsoft Power Point   Misc.
