YOUR POSITION WITH TNC The Visitation Manager reports to the Deputy Director of the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve and supports the strategic objectives of the Dangermond Preserve by planning, directing, and implementing the Preserve's diverse and multi-faceted visitation program. S/he will also manage Preserve operations that support visitation, including facilities and infrastructure, emergency preparedness, and safety. The Visitation Manager is a member of the Preserve team and will frequently serve as a representative for the Preserve with donors, partners, the public, and other visiting parties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Visitation Manager is responsible for developing a visitation program that inspires and attracts political, financial, and community support for establishing the Dangermond Preserve as a world-class nature preserve, center for collaborative research, and outdoor education platform. His/her highest priority is to ensure that every visitor to the Dangermond Preserve feels connected to the mission and identity of the Preserve, and their experience is one of valued contribution to the overarching objectives and future vision for the Preserve. Visitors include researchers and scientists, TNC donors and supporters, local stakeholders, strategic partners, contractors, and volunteers. S/he collaborates with the Preserve Management, Development, and Marketing teams in setting program goals, designing trip itineraries, and ensuring efficient trip planning and scheduling processes. S/he will help ensure the program's sustainability by determining program capacity with regards to staffing and resource use on an annual basis. S/he will develop infrastructure upkeep and improvement plans in coordination with Preserve leadership and work with building and infrastructure contractors to accomplish goals within time and budget constraints. She will develop systems for tracking and monitoring the impact of visitation and developing tools to help support and inform the larger Preserve goals moving forward. RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE Develops and manages a visitation program that supports and helps advance the vision and goals of the Dangermond Preserve. Organizes and manages documentation, digital file systems, materials, and other supplies associated with all aspects of visitation. Oversees the efficient planning and execution of Preserve trips in collaboration with Development, Marketing and Preserve staff, including on-site preparation, logistics and contingency plans. Sources and manages reliable contractors for Preserve infrastructure projects; develops and executes infrastructure upkeep and capital improvement plans with Preserve leadership. Establishes and maintains optimal standards of performance for visitation and infrastructure programs while controlling costs and administering budgets. Leads Preserve trips and serves as a representative for the Preserve with donors, supporters, local stakeholders, partners, volunteers, the public, and other visitors to the Preserve. Collaborates with internal and external partners to develop and implement a managed public access program. Collaborates with internal and external partners to implement an environmental educational program on the Preserve for school aged children. Measures and reports on Preserve visitation, facility use and visitation program outcomes. Works with Preserve team to develop and implement emergency preparedness plans and communications, safety protocols and training. Ensures programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance. May supervise administrative staff and/or volunteers, interns, or temporary staff. Makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience, context, and judgement. Demonstrates sensitivity in handling confidential information; Requires frequent travel to the Preserve, including overnight stays at the Preserve during heavy visitation periods, and flexible work hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BA/BS degree and 5 years' experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing and implementing complex or multiple projects under deadlines. Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance. Experience working with cross-functional teams. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages. Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated 5-7 years' experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences Experience presenting to diverse internal and external groups such as donors, partners, stakeholders, the public, and internal audiences from different functions. Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
