Focused on delivering unsurpassed services in support of law enforcement and homeland security, FSA, a rapidly growing joint venture owned by trusted solutions providers SAIC and AECOM, has a vacancy for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal I supporting the US Attorney's Office in Concord, NH. A Legal Assistant/Paralegal I performs, but is not limited to the following duties: * Produces a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced word processing software functions, including working from handwritten draft, edited copy, or electronic files created by another USAO employee. Utilizes databases and other software applications for office automation purposes. * Examining, preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents, such as a complaints, motions, orders, affidavits, pleadings, and subpoenas. * Coordinates with other agencies regarding the drafting of pleadings and other documents. * Prepares original letters that do not require legal interpretation, but which require a working knowledge of legal procedures. Uses a variety of advanced word processing functions, to create tables of contents and lists of exhibits. * Maintains records for the criminal case workload, from initial referral to final disposition to include case file closure, as instructed by appropriate legal support staff. Assists legal assistants and other USAO employees in obtaining information from software applications or databases as appropriate. * Provides a variety of ancillary office support functions requiring some subject-matter knowledge of the assigned unit's programs and operations. In this regard, performs a full range of standard clerical assignments with responsibility for resolving recurring problems encountered. Typical clerical assignments may include the following: * Performs a variety of record keeping, reporting, and informational duties with regard to the unit assigned. * Compiles, maintains and updates data, lists, and reports. Processes recurring documents with responsibility for checking actions for obvious errors and omissions and to determine subsequent processing requirements for relatively straightforward and recurring actions. * Prepares and maintains case files and subject matter files. * Sorts and arranges material for filing and files material in alphabetical, numerical or chronological order. Locates filed material based on working knowledge of office filing system. * Receives case files or other materials that have been classified and files under established file headings. Prepares cross references as necessary and as required, participates with office staffing closing files. * Assists in trial and case preparation, including preparing trial notebooks, transcribing recordings, and preparing other materials to assist attorneys in all aspects of litigation. * Conducts legal and factual research, including locating information in court databases and/or conducting legal research using Westlaw or Lexis. Assists in docketing, calendaring, and reception duties. * Makes recurring and special messenger trips as necessary. * Thrives in a fast-paced office environment with hard deadlines. Plans work flow in order for all members of the team to meet deadlines. * Communication skills are extremely important. Works and interacts in a courteous, effective, and professional manner with all levels of staff and when meeting with visitors. * Ability to meet established deadlines, review a wide variety of documents, both legal and nonlegal, including motions, briefs, and a variety of other legal documents. * Performs other related duties as assigned. A Legal Assistant/Paralegal I must meet the following qualifications: * Four year undergraduate degree preferred * Attention to detail and the ability to read and follow directions * Good oral and written communications skills * Must have one year's experience in a related field * Must possess a demonstrated ability to analyze documents to extract selected information * Advanced knowledge of Adobe, Word and Excel * Knowledge of standard office equipment * Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Access This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
