Port Terminal Journeyman Electrician Job Description Our client with major privately-owned timber lands on the northern coast of California is seeking an journeyman electrician to be trained to replace a person who is about to retire during the first half of 2020. An hourly rate exceeding $35/hour plus significant overtime can provide an income exceeding $100,000 per year with an attractive benefit and retirement package. Considering the growth of this business unit, an opportunity exists for the electrician to be promoted into a supervisory position. We are providing a REFERRAL FEE of $1500. upon placement of your referral. The hired electrician will support the electrical needs for a port facility that receives bulk materials and ships to overseas markets. The electrician will work in close coordination with maintenance and production employees following direction from the terminal manager. The position includes troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair and installation from a high-voltage powerline to electrical motors and electronic equipment, and related components in a marine-based environment. THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS INCLUDE: The ability to perform preventive maintenance and calibration of process control equipment and be able to evaluate equipment operation and make recommendations for improvement or repairs. Experience troubleshooting and repairing a/c motors and controls. The ability to perform programmable logic controller (PLC) programing as needed. The ability to read, write and understand electrical schematics, drawings, diagrams and follow written directions to facilitate repairs and maintenance. Must be able to trace out grounded systems (AC or DC). Must be able to read and understand hydraulic and pneumatic schematics so as to troubleshoot systems. Must ensure that the 4,000-volt supply line to the dock is maintained and serviced regularly. Must ensure 4,000-volt ground connection to steel pile group of the main dock is maintained/repaired as needed. This ground can only be accessed by work barge or skiff during minus low tide. Must operate and monitor blower system, conveyors and reclaimer’s during loading operations. Must be able to Install electrical conduit in compliance with industry standards and regulations, as needed. The ability to read work orders, PM sheets, mechanical drawings, layout and power transmission. Must be able to perform cutting and welding as necessary. Experience evaluating equipment operation to make recommendations for improvement or repair. Ability to work actively within the company safety programs. Be able to accomplish tasks without direct supervision. THE ESSENTIAL PERSONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES SHOULD INCLUDE: An electrical degree from a trade school and/or high school diploma/GED with 3 to 5 years of work experience as a journeyman electrician. Knowledge of electrical systems, hand tools, and industrial equipment. Ability to quickly troubleshoot electrical or computer problems. Ability to understand electrical and electron theory. Knowledge and experience with programmable logic controller (PLC) programming. Must perform preventive maintenance and calibration of process control equipment Must be able to design and install electrical systems in voltage levels of 120, 220 and 480 3-phase. Must be able to conduct repairs or service work in marine environment and at heights of up to 180 feet. Must have effective and productive communication skills (both written and speaking) and be able to communicate ideas clearly. Ability to learn, apply and retain new methods and information and be creative in solving problems.
