Summary The Systems Engineer Intern will provide systems engineering, technical verification and test support for CEFD advanced satellite IP based solutions. The systems engineering team are responsible for supporting all CEFD advanced satellite IP hardware and software products. The System Engineer Intern will be responsible for the processes, work flows and some components of the Engineering lab. The systems engineering staff will assist and be the escalation point for support. The position may require up to 10% travel (international and US domestic). Key Responsibilities Provide basic systems engineering support for CEFD satellite IP hardware and software, NetVue IMS. Systems engineering and technical verification and test support. Third-party Systems integration testing and Product Enhancement. Responsible for verification and testing of CEFD products hardware and software in the engineering lab. Participate in all verification and test processes. Maintain the verification and test work flow and processes. Install hardware/software in the engineering lab, and test the equipment to ensure it meets published engineering specification(s). Install CEFD patch releases in the engineering lab, and test the software to ensure it meets the published engineering specification(s). Provide input to and write procedures for CEFD equipment test and evaluation. Provide input to and write CEFD acceptance test procedures. Produce test reports and distribute to PSO management. Maintain the engineering lab. Maintain an inventory of equipment in the engineering lab. Maintain a configuration document for the engineering lab (IP schemes, installed software releases, hardware rack elevations, etc). The document will be published as frequently as the lab configuration changes and made available to all PSO staff. Support customer focused communications and interventions providing expert knowledge on verification and test support (bug fixes, customer debugging). Support TAC engineers in meetings with CEFD customers discussing bugs and/or customer issues/problems. The meetings may be focused on educating the customer about the CEFD product and/or the software. Must be able to develop a rapport and build a productive working relationship with CEFD customers and Engineering Staff. Highly Desirable Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding and detailed knowledge of networking and IP protocols to trouble shoot, debug and diagnose problems. IP protocols - TCP/IP, UDP, QOS, SNMP, HTTP, IPSec, Telnet. Familiarity with ancillary technologies used to support IP networks (e.g. management and metric gathering tools (SNMP), packet capture and analysis tools (Wires hark), SQL browser tools (MySQL Browser, Navicat). Basic knowledge of the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of: Commercial satellite earth station or VSAT terminal equipment - including HPA/BUC, LNA/LNB, RF converters, and satellite modems. Computer and satellite/WAN/LAN network hardware and systems – including switches, routers, VoIP gateways, fire walls, VPN concentrator's. Satellite communications and RF knowledge including familiarity with C Band, Ku band, L-Band and an understanding of RF system block and level diagrams. An understanding of: PC OS and hardware - Windows XP/Win7, Windows2000 and 2008 Server. PC Software - high quality software skills with, and prior experience, using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio. Test Equipment - Packet Sniffers/Protocol Analyzers, LAN/WAN Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Noise Generators, Satellite Delay Simulators, BER Test Sets desirable. Experience with the non-technical aspects of satellite and network engineering: Interfacing with various levels of employees and departments.
