Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital. International Control As the front line risk management organization for Wells Fargo lines of business operating outside the U.S., International Control is accountable for holistically assessing, aggregating, and effectively managing risks across all lines of business. International Control facilitates business execution by identifying risks, designing and assisting in the implementation of controls, and evaluating the execution of controls to ensure effective management of associated risks for our businesses and our customers. International Control interfaces with Business/Risk Control, Independent Risk Management and Audit to drive comprehensive and consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk policies and programs. The International Control Strategy & Transformation team manages initiatives aligned with International Control's objectives, and partners with business process owners and other front line control teams to establish/refine international-specific controls, drive operational excellence in control performance and optimize controls across businesses. The Role The International Control Strategy and Transformation team (CS&T) has an opportunity for an experienced, forward-thinking Business Risk & Control Officer (BRC Officer) to join the CS&T Risk team. The BRC Officer will provide leadership for high-risk/high-complexity strategic initiatives related to the assessment and development of controls for the international operations of Wells Fargo business groups. This individual will also be responsible for proactively identifying potential risks when implementing change, along with developing mitigation plans. The BRC Officer will work with functional leaders to obtain resources, influence outcomes, address conflict, and ensure alignment with Wells Fargo's strategy, policies and business group objectives. Due to the breadth of Wells Fargo's international activities, this position will also maintain relationships across the control programs for Wells Fargo lines of business operating internationally to ensure effective end-to-end integration of risk management initiatives across International. The position will collaborate with team members in domestic and international locations, which will require remote management skills and some travel. The BRC Officer will also provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to less experienced risk and initiative management staff. CS&T team members support building effective relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business group's risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements. The Candidate The ideal candidate possesses a combination of experience in international financial services, risk management, regulatory/financial crimes control, and regulatory remediation. This team member must be capable of initiating action and managing change in a fast-paced environment under regulatory scrutiny and heightened expectations. It requires a team member with strong relationship management, influencing, vision, communication and execution skills. A key differentiator will be the ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement while having ability to make timely and difficult decisions. The successful candidate will have the ability to distill complex concepts into targeted solutions, communicate those concepts effectively, and ensure that all deliverables are met. They will use both experience and analysis to identify business problems and build compelling fact-based strategic recommendations. Specific Responsibilities: Identify, design, and implement strategies to drive more effective and efficient execution of front line risk management activities with the highest levels of risk and complexity while ensuring effective coordination among all business groups operating internationally. Design and implement sustainable controls to address issues specific to international activities, including issues identified by Wells Fargo Audit Services, Independent Risk Management, and Regulators. Partner effectively with risk control groups (e.g. operational risk, financial crimes risk, regulatory control, conduct, etc.) and independent risk management to ensure consistency in approach and execution. Promote and maintain a risk culture that encourages an informed, measured, disciplined and sustainable approach to understanding and managing risks and controls. Lead teams with integrity and create an environment where team members feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them. Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management Desired Qualifications Advanced Microsoft Office skills A BS/BA degree or higher Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills with ability to turn findings into strategic imperatives Ability to research, analyze, document, and present organizational metrics that drive business decisions Experience communicating in both written and verbal formats with senior executive-level leaders Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment Ability to make timely and independent judgment decisions while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment Other Desired Qualifications Change Management skills with proven experience in Operating Model design and implementation 6+ years at a full-service financial institution with domestic and international operations with at least 5 years in Commercial Banking, Corporate-Investment Banking or similar businesses. Proven experience developing, implementing and maintaining effective risk management programs, especially risk controls, within a large complex financial services company; Preferred experience in operationalizing controls within business units. Previous experience executing regulatory remediation and corrective actions. Knowledge of domestic and international banking regulatory/supervisory frameworks. Ability to identify and transform existing programs that may be ineffective or deficient from a technological, operational and/or human capital perspective. Proven ability to navigate through ambiguity and maintain momentum driving for results and clarity in uncertain situations, and knowing when to raise issues and ask questions. Ability to think creatively, solve problems and facilitate decisions to ensure project outcomes result in expected business value/risk mitigation.
