Job Description GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive): Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Interfaces with NSF, other contractor and ASC personnel as necessary to coordinate equipment support, operational activities and to provide information. Plans, establishes goals, prioritizes and schedules work center tasks and work assignments. Receives requests and schedules personnel and assets to meet user and planned requirements. Reviews plans and procedures annually and submits amendments for approval. Ensures all personnel are trained to safely perform their assigned tasks. Ensures operators inspect equipment and lifting fixtures in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and established procedures. Ensures operators perform daily maintenance in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and established procedures. Coordinates with the Vehicle Maintenance facility and Operations Manager to plan equipment maintenance and repair support for heavy equipment. Generates input for the Equipment Replacement Plan regarding equipment demands and vehicle applicability or condition. Maintains accurate inventory and assures adequate materials are on hand for planned work. Develops personnel with succession and long-term knowledge in mind. Trains and orients subordinate employees on performance, documentation, and activities that affect the achievement of McMurdo Operations goals and metrics. Tracks data as requested by Operations Manager. Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics can be directly or indirectly, effected by this position's activities. Provides direct support, using staff resources if necessary, to the achievement of all metrics related to ASC. Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions, as necessary, to ensure adequate and legal documentation. Ensures that all subordinate employees are trained and understand ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and quality assurance, requirements and goals. Maintains documentation, as necessary, to meet these requirements. Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates, station management, and stakeholders, as needed, to relay information. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, quality standard procedures, and safety practices. Physical activities to involve lifting up to the safety regulation maximum, working both indoors and outdoors. Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy. Performs other duties as required. Requirements BS/BA required. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree. Valid Driver's license required. A minimum of five years’ experience in equipment operation and maintenance with four years’ experience at the supervisory level is required. Industrial, heavy highway construction and/or mining construction experience preferred. Career record must include the demonstrated ability to manage a multi-skilled work force. Must have excellent verbal and written skills and proficient computer skills. Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum. Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors. Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “Berming Man” (community work day and cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives. US citizenship or Permanent US Resident status is required.
