Data Collection Engineer
Global Wireless Solutions, Inc. (GWS), a wireless engineering company, is seeking a Data Collection Engineer to join its team in Dulles, Virginia. In this full-time Data Collection Engineer position, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Description : Data Collection Engineers (DCEs) collect data on coverage quality and capabilities for wireless/cellular networks. Data is collected primarily in markets (i.e. towns and cities throughout the U.S., although some international collection is possible). Once collected, data is generally transmitted to GWS headquarters in Virginia. This data is verified for its validity and included in reports produced by GWS for its clients. DCEs typically travel close to 50 weeks per year; collecting data throughout the U.S. The engineer is entrusted with a GWS van and valuable data collection equipment. Within a market, the engineer is provided with a predetermined drive route and is responsible for safely operating collection equipment (i.e. laptops, phones, software, etc.). At the beginning of each day, the engineer sets up collection equipment as appropriate. Throughout the day, the engineer communicates with data administrators and supervisory personnel to coordinate data collection and troubleshoot. At the end of the day, the engineer transmits the collected data to the office and removes any necessary collection equipment (i.e. laptop) from the van. An engineer may be in one market from three days to two months. Once the market is complete, the engineer is responsible for safely transporting the equipment and the vehicle to the next market. During busier periods, engineers may work in teams for well over 8 hours per day and sometimes 7 days per week.
Primary duties and responsibilities (but not limited to):
Configure the test equipment and record data on predefined route in an assigned market every day.
Ensure the integrity for the data, transfer the data to the office via FTP and communicate progress status to management as required.
Basic understanding of different wireless/cellular networks technologies and protocols.
Navigate the data collection vehicle on the appropriate drive route using hard copy maps and mapping software.
Safely transport GWS vehicle and data collection equipment between U.S. markets.
Set-up, take down, test, and troubleshoot problems while in the field on laptops, cellular phones, and data collection equipment as needed via phone and/or WebEx.
Work in cooperation with data administrators, supervisors, managers, and administrative staff in GWS office.
Travel within the continental United States up to 100% of time.
Education and experience requirements:
Associate’s degree in electronics or computer field, or a combination of education and experience.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Willingness to travel around the United States for business 100% of the time.
Ability to safely drive a GWS van for long distances and long periods of time.
Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Report every three months and maintain a positive driving record.
Exceptional ability to troubleshoot computer issues.
Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
Must be willing to agree to GWS’s drug testing policy.
