Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service , is seeking 3 Members to work directly with the Pinnacles maintenance staff and assist with an assortment of historic preservation projects.
These opportunities are intended for enthusiastic individuals with a background in construction trades who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of historic preservation.

Location: Pinnacles National Park, Paicines, CA Pinnacles National Park is located in California's Central Coast region of the Gabilan Mountain Range east of the Salinas Valley. The surrounding landscape is largely chaparral with areas of oak savannah and grasslands. The position is located at the eastside park headquarters in Paicines, CA. Nearest communities for shopping, doctors, hospitals, and other amenities are Hollister (40 miles, population 34,400), King City (40 miles, population 11,000), Gilroy (65 miles, population 41,400), Salinas (70 miles, population 151,000), and Monterey (90 miles, population 30,000).
Pinnacles National Park is fairly remote. Applicants must have a personal vehicle, as the nearest services are a one-hour drive in any direction. Additionally, there is no cell-phone service in the park.

Compensation: ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $545 /week to cover the costs of housing, food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS.
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 675-hour AmeriCorps Education Award ($2321.90) upon successful completion of service hours. Additional enrollment is required.
Training and Scheduling: ACE members will participate in a mandatory 2-week orientation/training at the Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC), Frederick, MD from 2/3-2/14, and then stay afterwards for the balance of their 20-week commitment at Pinnacles National Park. Daytime schedule will typically be 10 hour days, 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday).
Position Description: Traditional Trades Apprentices will work closely with park maintenance and trails divisions. Apprentices will work in support of building maintenance and trail projects to preserve historic sites throughout the national park. Primary tasks will include large scale painting and siding projects on historic structures. Trails work will largely be based on structures and historic masonry tasks on the High Peaks Trail. Much of the masonry work along the trail will be based in the preservation of existing stone stairs and switchback retaining walls.
