Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)
Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.
Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software.
Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
Load computer tapes and disks, and install software and printer paper or forms.
Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, and implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies.
Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
Implement and provide technical support for voice services and equipment, such as private branch exchange, voice mail system, and telecom system.
Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict,
Train people in computer system use.
Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel to facilitate purchases.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred, or Technical degree 3-5 years’ experience in designing, creating and maintaining Access databases required and 3 years’ experience and/or training in general IS preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. General knowledge of LAN/WAN, Cisco routers and switches, TCP/IP, AS400, Windows NT, Window/DOS operating systems, Citrix Metaframe, MS Office, EDI and general telecom technologies. Requires excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and judgment in dealing with co-workers, customers, and supplier.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:
TCP/IP knowledge, ie. Subnets, Routing, IP address schemes, VLANs and basic routing.
Hardware: Gateways, Switch, Router, firewall.
Networking command prompt commands, ie. Ping, tracert, netstat, ipconfig /all etc.
WINS, DCHP, DNS understanding, implementation
Ethernet adapter management, Wifi understanding, in order to be able to test and troubleshoot network connection problems.
Wireless Connection troubleshooting and configurations to hot spots. Wireless configurations for security, IE WEP 64 bit 128 bit or Mac address.
Being able to create Network Topology of existing network through understanding the layout, or creating a Network Diagram for a new network or addition to a network, via subnetting or supernetting.
Understanding the difference between routable and non-routable IP address.
Understanding the basics of fiber optics. Recognizing fiber cables vs. ethernet (Cat5) cables.
Recognizing fiber receiver/transmitter hardware. Understanding and knowing difference between both physical medias.
Knowledge of cabling, adapters and converters.
Windows 2003, XP, 7, 2000 Server, 2003 Server
Understanding how the registry works and registry security
Removal of spyware and viruses, understanding removal procedures
To be able to work on a PC and fix most issues without formatting, therefore preserving user data and configurations.
Update and Patches maintenance
Knowledge of major software, i.e. Adobe products, Office suites, Internet explorer, Exchange Client and Server SW, Antivirus and security software, Ghost and other imaging software
Specific knowledge of Outlook/Exchange use/policies
The Ability to understand Tape Backup schematics and their software solutions
Quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of new and proprietary software
Knowledge of Emulation software (ie. Tera Term, ProComm) and procedures to connect to Mainframes.
Knowledge of Cell Phones and Bluetooth capable devices.
Blackberry device setup and troubleshooting
Understanding internal Data Flow, i.e. Data collection at Mainframe, download to Roadnet, upload to Mainframe, download to Warehouse logistic systems, etc.
Will be responsible for supporting remote users
Maintaining a clean work environment – using company conventions, ie. PC naming conventions, E-mail address setup, User account setup, etc, maintaining well organized and clean Patch panel, office layouts, port layouts, etc.
Maintaining well organized and up-to-date licensing records and hardware inventories
Preserving/Backing up any data when rebuilding systems. High consciousness for failover procedures
The ability to troubleshoot via all resources available. Ability to utilize any and all resources available in order to successful complete the trouble shooting process independently
Optional but desirable: Understanding of Warehouse logistic systems, data flow, mechanical workings and interfacing software.
Understanding Battery backup systems
Utilizing industry procedures, conventions and standards
Understanding of Print and file servers, implementing both
The basics of active directory and knowledge of security permissions for PC and Server OS’s.
Understanding Remote Access, VPN tunnels, PCAnywhere, and VNC.
