Job Description

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accepts or rejects products based on condition, temperature, code date, short weight, damage, etc.
  • Checks and maintains records of inbound product temperatures according to procedures specified in the Distribution Receiving Guidelines.
  • Informs buyers of product quality as necessary.
  • Prepares warehouse condition reports as requested.
  • Makes recommendations to management regarding reduction in shrink.
  • Ensures that appropriate personnel are trained in the proper handling, storage, and rotation of produce to be shipped to the retail units.
  • Inspect incoming shipments of designated product groups, as well as products stored in the warehouse. Assess products according to written records.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all unit measurements, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
