Functions
- Build, develop, and lead a comprehensive donor relations program and multi-year stewardship plan working closely and in conjunction with campus partners, senior PFL leadership, college units, Principal Gifts, and Broad-Based Campaigns.
- Oversee a matrixed and integrated donor relations and stewardship program that encompasses donor recognition, personalized acknowledgements, impact-driven reporting, and meaningful donor experiences that shows gratitude and inspires future giving.
- Create a cross-functional team culture of high performance, excellence, and customer service; build trust and respect between the Donor Relations team and the broader PFL organization.
- Grow a team inspired to develop consistent, accurate, and impactful information-sharing strategies for stewarding prospects and donors; proactively enhance the stewardship responsibilities of PFL fundraising, including, but not limited to collaborative creation, coordination, and delivery of individualized stewardship plans for donors across the University and within colleges/units.
- Lead strategy, planning, and supervision to a team of donor relations professionals across campus to ensure consistent delivery of impact-focused stewardship through multiple delivery methods aligned with donor relations best practices.
- Lead and make policy recommendations, in conjunction with senior leadership, related to donor recognition strategies and naming opportunities, including permanent donor recognition and management of naming for facilities and space.
- Identify and develop tools for measuring donor relations success, and mentor donor relations professionals to increase major gift activity, build the pipeline of future donors, and manage activity in support of advancing relationships with key prospects.
Additional Responsibilities
- Collaborate as a strategic partner and part of the driving force for Purdue for Life’s engagement of top donors and prospects; provide creative and innovative ways to increase donor retention; improve the ability to raise philanthropic sights.
- Offer a high level of customer service and well-coordinated systems to externally facing staff; and ensure a focus on the PFL’s highest fundraising priorities.
- Create strong partnerships across the University to encourage and inspire collaboration of impactful stewardship of donors and prospects.
- Travel and attend internal and external events as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experienced in the art of philanthropy and fundraising principles.
- Stewardship, donor relations, communications, public relations, fundraising or related field, preferably in an educational setting and/or in higher ed university advancement.
- Must maintain a high level of personal and professional integrity.
- Must use good judgment in managing confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate well in writing.
- Must be able to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in analyzing data to benefit strategy and decision-making.
- Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in donor relations, communications, public relations, fundraising or related field.
