Job Description

Heath Safety Environmental Manager

This full-time exempt level position is responsible for compliance with corporate, federal, and state HSE policies. Develops training materials, conducts safety training, and new hire orientation. Conducts on site safety observations and inspections, audits and training needs assessments all while working in accordance with Allan Myers’ policies, procedures, and programs. May supervise other HSE professionals. This position requires extensive travel/commute to and from field sites; work locations for assignments are subject to change. 

  • Conducts site observations for safety compliance and behavior based inspections and performs incident investigations while adhering to company policies. 
  • Assists Operations with pre-planning safety into all situations through risk-assessment, job hazard analysis, identifying hazards, and putting in place controls. 
  • Readies and provides training documentation and other materials to ensure worksites have required OSHA, MSHA, and DOT documentation in place (i.e. hazcom, rigging, cranes, excavation, scaffolds, etc.) & provides training materials for specific site hazards based on site visit needs assessment. 
  • Develops and leads the implementation of risk management strategies at the project level. 
  • Analyzes cost effectiveness of risk control measures at the project level. 
  • Recognizes loss exposure to the project through utilizing HSE risk management techniques & applies creative and innovative techniques for management of risk exposure. 
  • Ability to manage employee injuries from occurrence through treatment and closure. 
  • Develops and assists with site specific Toolbox Talks and Safety Flashes, Production Review meetings, and monthly training modules. 
  • Conducts Subcontractor Safe starts and assists project team in overseeing subcontractor safety compliance and performance. 
  • Conducts, develops, and oversees all OSHA and MSHA inspections and related training, as well as new hire orientation. 
  • Conducts post-accident drug screens. 
  • Attends Morning Huddles, participates in project planning meetings & dynamic stretching. 
  • Provides safety expertise to Project Team and in jobsite support. 
  • Where necessary, purchases safety equipment. 
  • Analyzes and reviews the Myers’ safety culture and suggests change processes to establish proactive and desirable behavior as per the core values. 
  • May supervise other HSE professionals. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Experience & Education/Certification:

  • HSE/Safety related Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years of experience in a HSE/Safety role; OR no degree with 7years of experience in Heavy Civil construction supervisor/manager role. 
  • Experience with HSE responsibilities on multiple projects or $25mil+ in revenue preferred. 
  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • HSE/Safety certification a plus. 

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must be able to travel overnight or long distances on occasion. 
  • Must possess a willingness to learn and adapt to change. 
  • Ability to work under deadlines and pressure. 
  • Must possess excellent communication (verbal/written) & time management skills. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations. 
  • Must be detail oriented.
