Our client is seeking a Royalty Portfolio Analyst contractor that will be involved in daily monitoring of the Royalty Transmittal application for new business unit Contract/Title submissions to be set up in the royalty system. Initiates and interacts directly with the business unit editorial, finance, and product teams, as well as Corporate Legal with any questions and clarifications of the contract in order to ensure accuracy of the set up in the royalty system.
Assessment of the submitted transmittal information for completeness. Review provided information (publishing agreement(s), amendment(s), titles and any other documents) and interpret for data entry in the royalty system.
Receive and act on all inquiries related to the portfolio/program that are received from external customers (authors, agents, auditors) and internal customers (Editorial, Finance, Corporate Legal, and Corporate Audit). Take the necessary action steps to address and resolve these inquiries including maintenance in the royalty system if applicable.
Prepare supporting documentation in accordance with client policies/requirements for author-initiated requests related to establishing Estates, Trusts, and Assignment of Rights related to the author’s account.
Review monthly unmatched sales reporting for titles under the position’s assigned portfolios/programs and take necessary steps to research and resolve items on unmatched.
Work on any projects and/or initiatives assigned by the manager
Collaborate with Corporate Legal related to 3rd Party Audit requests being done on behalf of the author by preparing and providing requested reporting and documentation for the audit.
Liaise with Accounts Payable related to establishing and maintaining author accounts and in addressing payment issues.
Total IDs set up in royalty system annually is approximately 25,000 across all businesses.
Total Inbound inquiries received by Royalty Operations annually is approximately 5,000 and are cyclical due to larger volume statement cycles during the year (Feb/Mar; Aug/Sep).
Total Royalty payments are $150 million annually.
The ideal candidate must be able to talk and discuss contract with Senior Level Management, Lawyers and Authors. this candidate should have the ability to have a conversation with all levels.
They must have Contract and Royalties experience so they are able to discuss contracts and royalties along with the process to key stakeholders.
Communication, confidentiality along with excellent written skills are a MUST!
MS Office Experience as well.
Position requires the person to be able to read and understand publishing agreements and properly interpret and translate these legal documents to accurately set up the necessary contract information in the royalty system for the computation of author royalties.
Position requires an aptitude to learn and understand the client Royalty System and its workings in order to review and analyze author account activity.
Position requires the person to be detail oriented and to work with large volumes of data.
Incumbent must be able to identify areas of improvement in the position function and recommend solutions to improve process/procedures across the full end to end process.
Position requires some travel.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills are required as the position has direct contact with authors and will project and affect the impression an author will have of the client.
Position is also required to work in a collaborative environment with editorial, finance, and legal teams in addressing the interpretation of product/sales channels with the publishing agreement and the technical considerations for set up in the royalty system.
Strong analytical skills are required as the incumbent will have to extract and analyze large volumes of detail transactional activity on author accounts when investigating inquiries and/or responding to audits.
Knowledge and/or experience in Business Law and legal intent regarding such topics as copyrights, tax implications, estate settlements, assignment of ownership is a plus.
Strong experience in Microsoft Office tools Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Any prior work experience in royalties, publishing, editorial, legal, or accounting fields a plus.

Aptitude and analytical skills to be able to read, understand, and interpret publishing agreements and to understand how the client Royalty System works in the processing, calculating, and adhering to these terms and conditions.
Ability to assess inquiries and to problem solve for them.
Ability to perform financial calculations based on royalty defined formulas when resolving issues and inquiries.
Individual must be detail oriented for both the data entry aspects of the Royalty System set up and with author account detail activity analysis
