 As the Manager, EH&S and Quality Here's What You'll Do 

  • Oversee quality processes to assure compliance with CFRS Quality Assurance Manual and AAR M-1002 /1003 standards. The focus will be to manage the quality system and its components to ensure the quality of the railcars and satisfy all customer, regulatory, and CFRS requirements.
  • Act as a technical resource for investigating and resolving policy non-conformance, such as, but not limited to, incident reporting, customer discrepancies, and audit exceptions.
  • Conduct and /or oversee internal site auditing, this can include Customer, AAR, & FRA audits, internal audits, process and peer assessment audits, to continuously improve all aspects of safety and quality.
  • Control and communicate documents pertinent to the quality and safety policy, to all affected personnel. 
  • Work closely with management and other CFRS locations to introduce new procedures or equipment into production. 
  • This position will interact with senior executives, functional leaders, site managers / leaders and operations staff throughout the organization. 
  • Wear PPE in appropriate areas.
  • Lead, manage and ensure facility compliance to CFRS’ EHS program. 
  • Analyze and communicate CFRS’s safety performance of the facility while establishing and implementing improvement plans. 
  • Serve as technical liaison for researching, analyzing, and communicating EHS issues to the facility and the Director of EH&S. 
  • Ensure safety procedures and policies are in compliance with OSHA and CFRS standards, including maintaining related tracking logs. 
  • Ensure quality and safety training meets CFRS and regulatory standards, while ensuring employees are trained and testing is documented. 
  • Responsible for site environmental compliance. 
  • Control and communicate documents pertinent to the quality and safety policy, to all affected personnel. 
  • Responsible for the coordination for the site Safety Committee initiatives.

Job Requirements

Here's What it Will Take to be Successful in This Role:

  • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Five (5) years railcar inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of AAR Interchange Rules. 
  • Knowledge of AAR Field and Office Manual, AAR M-1003, M-1002. 
  • Knowledge of AAR Billing Repair Card requirements. 
  • Knowledge of welding inspection. 
  • Effective communication skills.
  • AAR Interchanges Rules through Railway Education Bureau preferred.
  • 30 hour OSHA training course preferred.
  • 24 hour HAZMAT training course preferred. 
  • First aid CPR training a plus. 
  • Environmental regulatory training preferred. 

Physical Demands:

Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet. Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs. Employee must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed outdoors and indoors, on and around heavy equipment. 
  • May be required to work varied shifts to meet the demands of the business.
