Overview

RES navigates and streamlines the environmental permitting process with solutions that balance economic development and ecological sustainability through the establishment of mitigation/conservation banks, permittee responsible turnkey mitigation, and corporate social responsibility projects.

 

RES is currently hiring for Engineering Technician in our Pittsburgh, PA office. This person will work in support of the Survey and Design Team Lead and be responsible for CADD linework and plan production, with a supporting role in collecting survey field data in the region. Tasks for this role will include, but are not limited to, field data collection and surveying, writing technical reports, developing digital data sets from survey data, CADD surfaces and gradings, E&S plans, Restoration plans, construction quantity take-offs, and construction stake out. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in CADD work with at least 1 year of field surveying, with a summary knowledge of stream and wetland ecology, geomorphic surveying, natural channel design, and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Directly reports to the Survey and Design Team lead and provides deliverables and data through all stages of project development
  • Collect field data including topography, site features, property structures, engineering data, environmental data, and others by implementing company and professional standards
  • Conduct construction survey activities, including but not limited to, stake out and as-built surveys to a company and professional standard
  • Process and store all survey and field data to assist with mapping and plan development
  • Create detailed CADD plan sets including site plans, design plans, erosion and sediment control, as-built plans, general permits, and others to company and professional standards
  • Assist other departments with routine field work or CADD work to produce project deliverables including alignments, profiles, corridors and 3D surfaces.
  • Flexibility in personal schedule to travel within the Mid-Atlantic region, mostly within PA and WV
  • Ability to work in all kinds of challenging and rugged field conditions in all types of weather, including but not limited to, streams and wetlands
  • Ability to perform daily work unaccompanied and meet project deadlines with minimal direct supervision
  • Ability to carry at least 50 pounds on the back and walk up to 4 miles a day
  • Ability to adhere to high professional standards of environmental health and personal safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (such as but not limited to Engineering, Architecture, Surveying, GIS or Environmental science) or 5 years of progressive experience in related fields
  • Two (2) or more years of proficient skills using AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • Familiarity with surfaces, alignments, profiles, assemblies, corridors and data shortcuts is a plus.
  • Knowledge with the following software is a plus:
    • AutoCAD Map, AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary Analysis, ESRI ArcMap, HEC-RAS, Trimble Business Center
  • 1-2 years of field surveying experience (boundary, topographical, engineering, mapping and/or stake out will apply)
    • Familiarity with traversing, GNSS control networks and statistical analysis is a plus
    • Familiarly with the civil construction trades is a plus
  • Familiarity with Trimble and Nikon surveying equipment including Trimble R-series GNSS receivers
    • Trimble S series robotic total stations
    • Trimble TSC3 data collectors
    • Trimble Geo7x handheld GPS
    • Nikon total stations
    • Spectra Laser levels
  • Any certification or license (including an -IT license) is a plus
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
