Interplastic Corporation is looking for an experienced Process Engineer to be responsible for improving manufacturing productivity and quality using process analysis, fundamental engineering principles and problem-solving skills. A successful candidate will be a strong leader, able to improve manufacturing processes in order to maintain efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability. This individual must be familiar with process safety management, able to update and maintain Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will promote a culture of continuous improvement through the use of data-based analysis and decision making, team collaboration and empowerment, and systems thinking.
Initiates and implements changes in design and engineering that will enable the plant to operate with greater efficiency, including making procedural changes and/or equipment modifications while utilizing management of change in a process safety management environment.
Recommends capital expenditures required to meet the plant's production and sales objectives and to properly maintain the facility.
Assists in corrective action, including the developing of an engineering solution, procedural change (under ISO guidelines) and follow-up to ensure the effectiveness of the change.
Develops and completes Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P & ID's) as required and manages drawing systems.
Develops a work plan to promptly resolve issues related to safety/fire protection/housekeeping inspections and environmental/regulatory agency visits.
Participates on process safety management team and safety committee.
Provides direction to engineering and contractor groups for specific plant projects in order to maintain the plant's buildings, grounds, utilities, environmental and production equipment at the optimum level needed to provide safe, efficient and uninterrupted service.
Assists HSEQ Manager in developing and maintaining of the plant safety, EPA, OSHA and ISO standard programs.
BS Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical engineering.
5+ years of experience in a similar position.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Project and Word required. Proficiency in Minitab or equivalent, Allen Bradley PLC and Wonderware HMI experience a plus.
Experience with statistical process control and other quality improvement tools e.g. Lean Six Sigma, 5S, DMAIC, 8D problem solving.
Strong understanding of batch chemical process equipment and technology, agitation and mixing technology, process control systems and liquid and powder transfer systems.
Strong understanding of sheet molding compound (SMC) process equipment and technology.
Strong analytical, problem-solving skills to thoroughly investigate a targeted problem and apply engineering or process knowledge that will lead to significant and sustained improvement of a process or product.
