Introduction WSP, a world-class multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Protection Engineer for our Dallas, TX office.  We work closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment especially the health care sector.    About the Job Our engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will be an integral member of our national Fire & Life Safety specialty practice and will be responsible for the development of fire protection engineering solutions for projects as well as client development.   Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Senior Fire Protection Engineer will include:  
  • Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.
  • Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements
  • Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
  • Producing with limited guidance fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.
  • Design of fire protection/life safety systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
  • Carry out and review, with some supervision, fire engineering calculations including smoke modelling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modelling.
  • Assist in the commissioning of fire protection/life safety systems in commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.
  • Directly interfacing with the client.
  • Organizing in-house resources.
  • Following quality control review processes of all project documentation.
  • Developing project proposals and budgets.
  • Conducting financial management of all projects.
  • Preparing technical reports/specifications.
  • Participating in department initiatives.
  • Contributing to the overall business development of the company.
Requirements Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering degree.
  • 5-7 years of fire protection and life safety consulting experience.
  • Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  Preferred Qualifications
  • P.E. License is preferred.
  • Health care consulting and design experience preferred. 
  • REVIT and AutoCAD proficiency preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
