The CNC Programmer/Machinist is responsible for writing CNC programs using Mastercam and Cimco Edit on a computer system, as well as on the controller at the machine. This position is responsible for performing fabrication set-ups of all specialized tooling/equipment including 5 axis machinery necessary to achieve precision manufacturing standards. The position will be required to support Research & Development and Production as well as training associates on the CNC equipment as needed. This position is responsible for process improvements including cycle time reductions and fixturing improvements, to reduce set-up time.
Write CNC programs for production parts as well as ball mold cavities for all CNC equipment and edit existing programs to enhance cycle times by adjusting speeds and feeds.
Upload and download all proven CNC programs and ensure programs are backed up to the local server.
Optimize CNC programs, machining process, and fixtures.
Troubleshoot malfunctions and/or out of tolerance machining conditions.
Train and develop additional associates on operation of CNC equipment.
Set up and operate CNC machines including 5 axis mills, and 5 axis EDMs. Select appropriate tooling and fixtures to support precision manufacturing parts with extremely tight tolerances. Complete tasks, including dimensional and visual inspections to part specifications, and make necessary program and process adjustments.
Set up and operate CNC machines including CNC lathes, Twin Spindle lathes, and wire EDM. Select appropriate tooling and fixtures to support precision manufacturing. Complete tasks including dimensional and visual inspections to part specifications and make necessary program and process adjustments.
Train and develop associates on the operation of CNC equipment. Train the overall machine operation to new associates, as well as new part set up to machinists when required for 10% of the time.
Maintain operation of equipment to include monitoring coolant levels, oil levels and chuck lubrication. Perform PMs as required.
Maintain proper levels of cutting tools needed to perform and meet the daily manufacturing plan for the other 10%.
Verify conformance of finished work-piece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary.
Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to.
Detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required to ensure quality of finished parts.
Manage machine maintenance to ensure machine longevity and limited downtime. Assist in machine tool maintenance.
Maintain clean and safe work areas, and stations, at all times
Vocational school graduate of Machine Shop or Machine and Tool Technology or equivalent secondary school curriculum required.
Minimum 5 years' experience in programming required. Minimum of 3 years' experience in machining required with at least 2 years setting up CNC machines, including CNC lathes, 5 axis milling machines, CNC wire machines, and 5 axis ram EDM machines required.
CNC Machinist training or successful completion of a CNC Machinist program at a Technical school required.
Entry level Mastercam training required.
