WSP has an immediate need for an Urban Designer for our Urban Design / Placemaking practice centered in our New York, New York and Atlanta, Georgia locations. Our ideal candidate will be able to work in a team environment to implement urban design, infrastructure planning and placemaking projects across the US. We are seeking a design-oriented, creative and dynamic team player to work within multi-disciplinary teams, integrating technical disciplines to solve the complex challenges facing modern society to create great places. Candidate must possess a design acumen, strong communication skills and graphic capabilities.
Team with planning, design and technical staff in support of a growing, Urban Design and Placemaking Practice
Function entrepreneurially within the team, the firm and with corporate leadership
Develop CAD/Illustrator/GIS diagrams, plans, sections and 3D models for urban design studies and packages
Writing and assembly of reports and other documents
Provide hand sketch and computer aided designs for projects
Participate in public and stakeholder engagement, table facilitation and community workshop
Be available and able to travel nationally (usually 2 to 3-day segments)
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Other duties as required by business needs.
Design focused and ability to innovate and create ideas that are technologically feasible and economically viable
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant and/or related field of study
Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible experience in urban design planning or design-related activities (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
Positive attitude – a team player with the ability to work in a corporate environment and communicate with a wide range of professionals
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High quality hand sketching and/or computer graphic abilities
Ability to manage multiple deadlines
Creative thinker that embraces innovation
Understanding of transit-oriented development, placemaking, complete streets and design of resilient places
Graduate degree in urban design, urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, and/or city planning (with design focus)
Proficiency in use of Adobe Creative Suite, (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design), GIS, 2D-CAD, 3D rendering capabilities a plus
