Sustainable Design Analyst Leader

Job Description

WSP, an award‑winning and innovative multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for a Sustainable Design Analytics Lead to join our Built Ecology team, our growing sustainability and high-performance consulting group. We are looking for the right candidate with preferred location in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York City.   The role will include overseeing the delivery and strategic growth of our integrated building performance analysis services, including computational design, energy and daylight modeling, comfort and CFD analysis, etc., as well as leading projects and overseeing staff. We are also looking for someone with a strong external / client facing presence, conducting thought leadership and helping to developing regional markets.   Built Ecology is WSP’s national Built Environment Sustainability team, providing a broad range of services including high performance design and analysis, sustainability, health, and resiliency consulting, building and master plan certification, sustainability master planning, and integrated design management. We engage with a wide variety of projects and client types, including those pursuing decarbonization, LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building/Community Challenge buildings and institutional campuses, healthy buildings and neighborhoods (including WELL and Fitwell buildings), restorative (net zero or positive energy, water, and waste) projects, EcoDistricts, etc. Our solutions are innovative, integrated, and practical.   Ideal candidates will exhibit the following characteristics:  
  • Passionate about a creating sustainable built environment
  • Ability to lead a team of building performance analysts across the US with a range of software and approaches towards modeling and analytics
  • Expertise in building science, envelope and façade performance, and MEP system configurations
  • Expertise with analytic tools to support various aspects of high-performance design, including whole building energy and daylight modeling, envelope modeling, climate analysis, renewable energy analysis, district energy analysis, embodied energy analysis, etc.
  • Experience with BIM, 3D computer modeling, computational design tools, and early-phase design analysis
  • Ability to evaluate, improve, and implement a comprehensive quality control process for building performance analytics
  • Experience overseeing, managing, and delivering a wide variety of building performance analysis projects
  • Ability to interact with the various engineering disciplines and subject matter experts across the WSP universe
  • Highly technical with the ability to communicate, present, and generate enthusiasm and buy in for ideas and solutions
  • Strong relationships with developer and architecture communities and external presence in the real estate, architecture, and sustainability industry
  • Familiarity or expertise in smart building energy and IAQ management
  • Expertise in water balance, treatment, and reuse opportunities
  • Ability to lead an integrative design process
  • Ability to facilitate complex sustainability discussions and lead goal-setting workshops
  • Experience developing and delivering compelling public presentations
  • Manage existing clients and develop new clients
  • Direct and support projects with high performance, general sustainability, or low or zero carbon goals, including running and overseeing various technical models beyond basic whole building energy modeling
  • Manage and lead the Design Analytics team (~10-15 people) within Built Ecology, reporting to the Built Ecology practice leader
  • Be a regional leader in developing approaches to high performance design across the WSP portfolio
  • Have a leadership presence in the industry and support regional and national business development pursuits
  • Manage multitask and multidisciplinary projects to successful outcomes
  • Integrate with all aspects of the business to weave sustainability into all our service offerings
  • Manage and support staff
  • Facilitate conversations between multiple stakeholders to devise sustainability strategies
  • Produce or oversee the production of high quality, visually compelling deliverables
  Requirements Requirements:
  • Bachelor and/or master’s degree in a technical built environment sustainability or building design-related discipline
  • 10+ years of sustainability consulting and demonstrated areas of specific subject matter expertise and industry presence
  • Ability to organize and lead a team of technical experts
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a portfolio of work and support the staff needed to manage and deliver that work
  • Ability to generate new work per year from new and existing clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of a wide array of national and global sustainability-related rating systems, codes, and programs
