If this sounds like you, we may have the perfect opportunity for you!In this role, based in Carlsbad, California, we are looking for a DWDM Optical Network Engineer to be a key part of a highly visible and business-critical technology team at Viasat. You will be working on the design and architecture of the company's core network infrastructure to support our expanding global satellite fleet. This includes leading the architecture of DWDM networks, creating written network implementation design plans, and troubleshooting system issues. You will work on layer 1 network design, capacity planning, platform management, and maintenance, as well as serve as an escalation and coordination point for significant network events.Job Responsibilities:* Lead the coordination of team activities with responsibility for results, including costs, methods, and staffing.* Oversee and review work done by other engineers, technicians and other support staff* Establish operational objectives and delegate assignments to direct reports.* Estimate efforts accurately and thoroughly* Establish relationships and interface with other departments in Viasat, vendors, and subcontractors* Develop/mentor members of the team to improve technical depth and breadth, and in the rigorous application of engineering processes* Establish technical training goals/plans and ensure that they are both achieved and align with the company's strategic needs.* Manage your own schedule, prioritizing projects and scope, and plan design activities and outputs within the team.* Create written network designs and implementation and test plans* Create and enforce standards/guides, staying abreast of leading-edge innovations, and communicate with the rest of the team.* Troubleshoot system issues* Work to automate network components and network management systems.Requirements:* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering* 10 years of relevant work experience with multi-vendor network equipment to architect complex DWDM systems* Written network implementation design planning and troubleshooting system experience.* Knowledge of 100G coherent technology in build long-haul networks* Understanding of routing, switching, and basic network communication protocolsPreferences:* Experience with use of fiber network design, planning and mapping software tools such as 3-GIS, ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS* Coding and debugging in Java, Python, Golang, or other modern programming languages* Experience with continuous integration & delivery and DevOps methodologies* Operational experience working with major carriers* An understanding of outside plant construction requirements with fiber experience preferred* IP and Ethernet networking experienceTo learn more about this site and other office locations, please click here!#LI-CN
